have you spoken to your midwife about the itchiness? i had a terribly itchy bump in late preg with DD and i ended up on antihistamines prescribed by my gp as nothing would help!! i used palmers coacoa butter amd oilatum cream but it only served to soothe the itchiness for a very short while it might be worth speaking to your MW for some information or to point you in the right direction

tried some cocoa butter this morning, doesn't seem to have helped at all...
am only 20 weeks, this shouldn't be happening yet!

No i used palmers cocoa butter and used baby oil in my bath and showers with NO stretch marks at all.
I got recommended bio-oil by mw n as soon as i used it stretch marks took over EVERYWHERE im not kidding my stomach and top of thighs r covered.
It could be different for you bt im not going to risk it again next time round!!

CIS i would definitely speak to your midwife about it as you are quite early on and there is a liver disorder that can cause this aswell as you are presumabley not getting stretched too much yet which was my problem. are your hands or feet itchy aswell??

Eis-hands and feet are fine, it's just my tummy
am trying to remember if the itchiness started this early last time...but of course, I can't!
it's not terrible, just a bit annoying, and mainly at the sides of my bump just under my ribs or above my hips

Hi, I think the liver thing is more common later in preg.

I am 22weeks and had the most awful itchy belly a few weeks back. I think it is just as the skin begins to stretch. Don't think it is anything to worry about at this stage.

i'm having the same thing although further on than you, cat. i haven't found anything to stop it - I only get solace at the very moment when I'm rubbing oil/moisturiser in, after that it's back to itchiness. If it wasn't so cold I'd probably not wear clothes either because they seem to make it more irritible

I've used Bio-oil, palmers cocoa butter, almond oil, normal body moisturiser and boots coconut oil. My bump does smell delightful but gah does it itch!

Try getting double-base on prescription from GP - it's very very good, and I was scratching till I bled when pregnant with dd2 until i started using it. Also try to keep the area cool - I used an ice-pack wrapped in a towel.

It's good - you can buy it over the counter, but as your prescriptions are free right now I'd ask your GP. I first had it prescribed for an itchy pregnancy bump, but have used it a lot for other dry skin conditions since (my psoriasis, dh's eczema, etc).

Ice cold nettle tea applied to the skin really helps, if you've got a little spray bottle to put in all the better.

Sorry I didn't find anything that helped but it was relatively short lived. couple of weeks. Second that wearing clothes makes it worse, particularly over bump style trousers.

I am half way through my prenancy and a couple of weeks ago i had that horrid itiching in my tummy, bum and thighs.... arghghg! Thought i was getting a horrid disease but hey presto, it has now dissapeared!

I love Bio Oil been using it since 10 weeks, lovely feel and smell albeit silly expensive. x

You can buy nettle tea bags or you can use wild stinging nettles if you can find some. Just make a strong cup/pot of tea and let it cool. Once it's cold just pop in in the fridge, preferably in a spray bottle.

I used to make a new batch each day just to be sure it didn't go yukky.
