Scan date, hm...

Hello everyone :)
So I got my scan date which is 26th February. Not only OH Birthday but, I'll be 8 weeks, will that still be a viable time for a scan?

How did you book your scan?
Have you had your booking appointment? That's usually 8 weeks, are you sure it's not for that?

zaalitje · 05/02/2018 15:55

If you'll be 8 weeks on 26th, you could only be 5 weeks now, so could only have found out in the last week.
How'd you manage to make and then attend that then them arrange a scan off te back of that in just a week?

I found out at 1-2 weeks, had my booking in appointment just about a week ago. Just got my scan letter today, it is 100% my scan letter. I'm currently 5w4, I'm a higher risk due to my mmc in August last year. That's, how.

My doctors see people at 6 weeks plus, I was down for next week, but the midwife called me and wanted to see me earlier because of mmc. I'm due 4th october. Here in Cambridge, people get referred and sorted very fast, plus being a higher risk I did request an earlier scan date but they said probably not but will see what they can do. Didn't think it would be this fast or this early.

I'm actually petrified, it was at my scan last August I saw the more heartbreaking scan. I don't want to see it again, but I can't help but think I will.

My understanding was they can't do booking appointments (certainly where I live) until 8 weeks because the dating scans can't take place until 11+5 or thereabouts. I'd presume something has been triggered in your case because of your medical history, but you won't be having a dating scan at 8 weeks, maybe an early pregnancy reassurance / additional scan but not a dating scan. I am currently pregnant and couldn't get my booking in before 8 weeks and the MW said about the minimum date for the dating scan.

Well 8 weeks is too early for the nuchal screening test if you are having that? That can only be done after 11 weeks.

Having had a MMC doesn't make you higher risk in any way than anyone else unless you have had some other sort of fertility diagnosis? I had a mmc and know a few other people who had mc and until you've had 3 in a row you usually aren't treated any differently to any other pregnant woman?

I'm not doubting you but huge amounts of what you are saying doesn't fit with usual NHS UK practices. There must be a bit more to it for you to have found out at 1-2 weeks?

Will you also have a scan between 11 to 13 weeks? I would definitely ask this if you want screening for Downs etc.

You should probably take your photos off as they have your fill name and address on..

What dates are you working off OP? Because when you say you found out at 1-2 weeks, you wouldn't have even ovulated by then! So when you say you will be 8 weeks, is it possible you will actually be 10 or more weeks, working from the first day of your last period?

You can have a dating scan from 8 weeks, although 8 is the cut off. I had ivf, and my clinic were very keen to get my early scan done within the 7th week, as if it had gone past 8, I wouldn't have qualified for another until my mid pregnancy scan. Nuchal measurements won't be possible, however, so if this is important to you, you need to call your midwife or the hospital to discuss.

*full

I had a scan at nine weeks as dates mixed up. Had to go back at twelve weeks.

My 12 week scan was booked in for when I would have been 10 weeks pregnant, I was advised by early pregnancy unit to call and rearrange the scan for when I would be 12 weeks. Is it possible for you to do same? Or is it for an earlier scan with epu? I had scans at 8 and 10 weeks

Are you sure of your dates? At 1-2 weeks you wouldn't have ovulate, let alone have enough hcg in your body to be picked up on a test.
You know that you count from the first day of your last period, right?

One MMC doesn't make you high risk. I've had several mc/mmc and I don't get seen any sooner because of it, increased consultant care later on but the first trimester was pretty much the same in terms of scans.

In terms of the scans, if you want the NT test for Downs, Edwards and Patau I'd get back in touch and rearrange the date as it can only be done from 11 weeks.

Call them and ask if it's a dating scan or a viability scan. If it's a viability scan at the Early Pregnancy Unit then there's no issue but if it's a dating scan they won't be able to do it until between 11-14 weeks and so you'd either need to reschedule on the phone or turn up and be asked to return at a later date.

Neither seems like a big issue but at least you'd know for sure.

You’ve put all your personal information on here OP, I’d request MNHQ take it down straight away if I were you.

I don’t think they can do all the necessary tests before 11+ weeks (Down’s syndrome etc) so I’d probably give the hospital a quick call and just double check with them. They may have not looked at your dates properly, either that or you’ll go back in for another one at the appropriate time x

You mean you found out 1-2 weeks post conception, which is 3-4 weeks pregnant.

ProfessionalPirate · 05/02/2018 17:01

Sorry x-post op. At your booking appointment, did you discuss screening tests with the midwife? Is there a chance she thinks you don't want screening? Because that might explain why you've got such an early date - they'll just get you in whenever.

I told midwife I was getting NIPT, and consequently ended up with a very late dating scan (over 14 weeks) because I was obviously noted down as not requiring the combined screening/nuchal.

OP, please ask HQ to remove those photos for you.

Posters might be asking for clarification about your dates, but this is just an Internet form- you don't need to provide proof for anything!

To be clear (because some pps contain incorrect info) the NHS can and will perform dating scans from 8 weeks.

NT screening is completely optional, it is discussed at the booking appointment. If you DO want the screening OP, you need to sort a different appointment. I certainly don't think you'll be offered a second one nearer 12 weeks.

I think you're confusing the dates based on conception and dates based on last period. At 1-2 weeks pregnant, you wouldn't even be pregnant yet, you can only get pregnant from roughly 2 weeks or after in your cycle dating from first day of your last period. If you found out at 1-2 weeks from when you got pregnant, you are technically according to the NHS, 3-4 weeks pregnant, so when you had your booking you would have really been 8 weeks and 4 days. And by that date, your scan would actually be at 12 weeks, which is exactly when it should be. When was the date of your last period?

Wow.

I wasn't accusing you of lying (and certainly didn't need photos of your pregnancy tests!!) I was pointing out as others have that the appointments you are being offered don't seem to fit with the usual way of doing things in the NHS unless there was something a bit more complicated going on (e.g an IVF pregnancy).

I would report your posts OP as that is waaaaay too much identifying information to post on a public forum visited by millions.

Plus Cambridge really need to get someone to proofread their letters.
