Anyone else in first trimester feeling horribly sick and tired?

lillamyy1 · 13/09/2014 12:55

I'm 9+4 weeks and have been feeling dreadful since week 5! I'm not actually being sick but I'm feeling so rough that I haven't been able to go to work for the past month and I'm totally knackered all the time as well.
Feeling very lonely and miserable being at home all day. Anyone experiencing or previously experienced similar symptoms got any advice/support or just want to keep me company and whinge??

Hey, I've been in your position and just wanted to pass on a recommendation that really helped me with exhaustion in first tri. Give the lucozade isotonic drinks a go. I don't think I'd have made it through a days work without those. A midwife recommended them to me so perfectly fine to drink. X

Yup. Zombie mode engaged. I'm almost 11 weeks. Absolutely shattered and everything makes me ill. Everything, even doing the washing, is an effort. Im home most of the time, alone and it can be very frustrating.
I agree with the lucozade comment, but i've gone off it :( seems to be a recurring thing!

Hi Kels and Nerds. Thanks for joining me! Sorry to hear you're so ill too, nerds.
Kels, when did your sickness and tiredness wear off? Will try the lucozade. Is it the original kind?

Hi lilamyy1. I sympathise with you a lot. I am the same.. 8+3 currently, hormones everywhere, stressed, down, exhausted/fatigue, nausea, sometimes actual sick, miserable, (also have not been work a few times). And I too have felt like this since around 5 weeks. Much wanted pg after 2 mc's, but feeling really down with mixture of all of these emotions Sad sadly I have nothing to offer, as I can't find anything to help either, but try pregnacare original they have all the essential vitamins in including your daily intake of folic acid. It makes me feel slightly perkier now and then Thanks

I felt like this til about twelves weeks and it just slowly disappeared. Until if easier I didn't feel crap anymore. I found constantly eating stopped me feeling nauseous so I had a tub of things to nibble on - dried fruit etc - helped lots. It will pass x

Hey, I felt like it until about 22 weeks. That was also when my sickness ended which I had really badly. Now at 35 weeks and back to exhaustion! Enjoy the middle bit :) I had the orange drinks, but they do a few flavours in the isotonic range.

Hi Rosey and Pippin Smile thanks for the dried fruit tip pippin - will try it.
Sorry you're so ill as well Rosey, but v glad you're pg after your mc's Thanks
I'm feeling v down as well. I wanted this baby for so long and now I'm so ill and worried about not earning (don't get sick pay) that I keep thinking I wish I hadn't bothered Sad Sad Sad
The stupid thing is, because I have so few distractions being at home all the time, I obsess about food and keep thinking about foods I've really gone off which just makes me feel so much sicker!

i feel your pain!

i too am in first trimester and the nausea/tiredness/hormones hit a few weeks ago and it's been a bit of a struggle :-/ i found that fizzy mineral water helps plus doctor explained that if i am feeling bad it means that it's going good for baby, which seemed to make a big difference! i'd been feeling guilty about transmitting bad vibes to little bean, plus ... shouldn't i be feeling estactic and glowy about having got pregnant at all??!!

so yes, trying to interpret the bad feelings as a good sign for the bean helped, but yesterday the nausea came back more strongly and although I'm not vomiting, that plus the tiredness kind of saps the lifeforce out!

anyway, it's good to be able to read and connect with other people in same situation. hope everyone's doing OK today. xxx

Lillamyy1 thank you, definately a blessing but yes does make you worry about money etc. I am dreading to see my wage slip at the end of the month! The only thing I really found was that if I felt poorly I would just lie down and go to sleep or at least rest my eyes. But with working it's sort of hard to do during the day! Hope you are feeling ok x

Hi everyone who it haven't said hello to yet Smile I hope everyone's feeling ok today.
Has anybody tried taking any tablets for the sickness? I was prescribed cyclazine but they didn't work very well and made me really sleepy so now I'm on metoclopramide, which are a lot better. I'm still not well enough to go back to work though. I'm an English teacher and I teach adults at a private language school. I have to be really energetic and cheerful as well as on the ball mentally in order to do my job and I'm just none of those things at the moment. I just want the old 'me' back!!
Kels, I can't believe you felt so poorly for 22 weeks! How did you manage??! It must have been a huge relief when it stopped.

Me, feel sick 24 hours a day. Not actually sick though.

Also feel like I need to eat constantly to help the sickness. This is my third and think a was very similar to the before. My sickness seemed to creep up from 5 weeks getting worse and worse, then gradually got better at about 14 weeks.

Im only 7 at the moment Sad

Hi again lillamyy1, how are you finding the medication? I feel wary of taking any so therefore haven't told my GP as yet about how bad I've been feeling. I still haven't found a magical remedy that's perked me up yet. Still nibbling on food throughout the day (actual meals make me feel worse. Tired, nausea etc), and drinking juice/water almost constantly. Hi CB, I'll call you that for short!! That's me too, not always sick although I feel as if I need to be, to stop the palpitations and make way for more food! You say you're only 7, I went for an early scan at 7+2, and since then the time has flew by. I am 9 weeks today. Intact, my partner told one of his friends I was around 8 weeks, because he thought I had the scan last week! Hopefully these early weeks fly by for you and you feel better soon x

Hi CB, I hope it passes quickly for you too! I can't believe you're having a third - I refuse to go through this ever again!!
I keep feeling I need to eat to settle my stomach too. What I've just discovered and what's helped me the last two days though is Complan. It's like a milkshake drink in powder form that you mix with water or milk and it's a meal replacement especially for people who can't manage solids. You get it from the pharmacy.

Hi, sorry to interrupt but you sound like you know what you're talking about. I only got my BFP yesterday and am waiting for my doctors appointment on Friday. So I guess in only about 4 weeks pregnant but I am worried because I keep having cramps like I'm going to start my period and other than that I don't feel different at all! Will I start to feel more 'pregnant' (crappy, sick, rubbish etc?? Grin ) as the weeks go on? Oddly, I hope so! I don't feel pregnant and I really want to be.

Hi Bree! First of all congratulations Thanks It was around 4 weeks I started to feel awful, but on other threads I have read that some ladies' sickness started from anything around 5-6-7-8 weeks! Or you may get no sickness at all! Either way, relish in the time your feeling ok because if you do get to the stage of how we have all been feeling, it's not nice Sad struggling to make it to work, housework, cooking etc. cramps can be normal I've heard, although every symptom differs between every person. Hopefully you're not in too much pain? Let us know how you get on x

Ah thank you for the reassurance Rosey. I will enjoy how I'm feeling at the mo for sure! Did another preg test this morning to reassure myself too so yay.

Hope you're feeling better soon :( Flowers

God I was glad to see this thread - am sitting at work feeling so utterly sick and zombie-like! But I feel I can't really complain since obviously I am thrilled. So a relief to find somewhere to vent online!

I am only just pregnant - 4 weeks 1 day probably - and already have a lovely DD1 (2 years old). I am 42, and last time the week 4 to week 8 stage was just gruesome too - just very sick. But as soon as the progestoerone dropped and hCG stabilised it felt great, so I am just going to cling on with my fingernails until week 8 (and stockpile ginger biscuits, though they didn't help me muc last time).

I was very surprised to fall pregnant again so quick (girst month trying), given my age, so am feeling rather paranoid too - and mucus is weirdly dropping, so I keep knicker watching. Keep plunging out of my office to the bathroom. Dead giveaway!

But during the worst of my nausea last night I fished out our old scan photos of our sweetheart dd, and it just blows me away the idea of another. Fingers crossed! I did hear nausea is a good sign, but hard to appreciate it! And the tiredness - blimey.

Congratulations Trifle! You're lucky that it all ended at week 8 for you. I'm 10+1 now and still feeling dreadful!
Wondering if I'll ever feel normal again Sad

I'm also v pleased to find this thread. This is my first pregnancy and being at such an early stage (6 wks) don't reel like I can turn to friends for advice on how to handle this feeling of nausea. I can only liken it to a hangover from white wine which is a dim and distant memory now!

I've found having some food on hand (like oatcakes - nairns do them in various flavours) helps a bit, but it's been a struggle to leave the house and catch the bus to work a couple of mornings this week.

I'll definitely stock up on some lucozade though and check back to see what anyone else can find even slightly palatable at the moment!

All this said, the rubbishy feeling is balanced with the fact that it's a sign something pretty big is happening inside, which is reassuring at this early stage I guess. xxx

Hi d0ttyne11, sorry to hear your in the same boat as all of us! But I agree with the last thing you said- something big is happening in our bodies so I can't really expect anything less? Although it doesn't help that people are saying to me 'wow I never had any morning sickness at all'. Is that supposed to make me feel better?!
I'm constantly tired throughout the day, every day. I feel as though everything I'm doing, from getting up to turn the tv on- to going food shopping- is just forced! I'm having to force myself to do anything. And even though I am eating, I'm eating less than before becoming pregnant, and a lot more slowly, no big meals etc Sad
