Have a good one Taylormama! Don't over do it on the matza. lol! Wishing everyone else a good Pesach.

I have matza during the week but as I married out, there are some chamesh(?) in the house as well. My kids get the best of both worlds. LOL!

Wishing you both a happy pesach. Taylormama - to follow on from my thread about the sweet potatoes (which i managed to overcook by the way), I just remembered the one thing I really dislike about this holiday. I don't mind the matzah, I can live for a week without bread or pasta, I can even just about cope with the horrible coffee. But it's the having to sweep & hoover after every flipping meal that drives me up the wall! I don't remember my mother doing it, but maybe we just lived in a messier house!

Oh, and I always thought the word was "chometz" mumtwogirls.

sorry about your sweet potatoes - they are tricky little buggers!! LOL at the hoovering - i remember after seder night, my mum getting the ewbank out (think that is how you spell it) to pick up all the crumbs! I had matzabrei yesterday - v v nice.

DH keeps asking for matzah brei but it's one of those things I just don't make. Probably cuz I don't like it. I'm a bit like that with my cooking, I hate learning how to cook things I don't like to eat. He'll have to make do with plain old eggs.

how about matza pizzas - bit of tomato, grated cheese, cooked mushrooms and grill or microwave?

SugarmagEatsMatzah · 06/04/2007 07:43

LOL at fish balls - I'm saving those for lunch tomorrow!

We eat a lot of scrambled eggs, baked potatoes and homemade vegetable soup during Pesach in our house. And meat. Lots of meat. Actually tonight it's going to be chicken. Goujons for the kids and sweet & sour sauce for us.

made porridge out of matzoh meal this morning, sugarmag...have you tried that?

same way as you would make normal porridge, really, best with medium matzoh meal and needs a wee bit of sugar...

my grandma used to give us charoset on matzoh for brekky the night after seder !!

hmmm, not so sure about the matzah meal porridge - I don't like my porridge sweet and I have a feeling if you made it savoury it would be a bit like eating kneidlach for breakfast.

I make muffins from a Manachewitz mix and have them with butter or jam for breakfast. It's what my mum always made for Pesach every single year and it just doesn't feel like Pesach without them to me. No one in Glasgow sells them and every year I have to go to great lengths to get them!

lulumama · 06/04/2007 14:34

yes, that is what it is like, without the sugar, although made with milk, not water!

I loathe matzo and have taken the executive decision not to eat them this year. Or gefilte fish.

SugarmagEatsMatzah · 09/04/2007 18:43

So we still have tomorrow to get through and I have 2 slices of matzoh left, no marg, no cream cheese, in fact no cheese at all. Just muffins, apples and yet more eggs.

Bring on the pizza !

10 years ago I was living in Israel at Pesach and really missed my bread. Desperation made me drive from Ramat Aviv Gimmel (where I was living) to an Arab bakery in the depths of Jaffa just so that I could get some bloody pitta.

Charoset, though...mmmm....

Well, I've decided we're done after breakfast this morning. With no matzoh, no fresh fruit, no butter etc it's not fair to the kids to make them have yet another scrambled egg for their lunch. They've been great but they're getting a bit fed up. So we're going shopping after breakfast today. I know I should wait til tomorrow but I'm feeling a little desperate today (notice the name change! )

Hi Manuka. Yes I am Jewish and live in an area with a small but friendly Jewish community and I would have to say that most of my friends are Jewish. This is reinforced by the fact that there is a Jewish school in the area and most of our children go there so all the mums at the school gates are Jewish as well. There are a few that aren't or who are from mixed backgrounds and my kids think it's very funny that some of their friends get to celebrate Christmas and Chanukah! (Not sure how you do Passover & Easter together - can you get kosher le pesach easter eggs? ) I also have close family who have married out.

If you look at this thread though, there's only 6 of us here including you - considering what a global community mumsnet is that doesn't seem like an awful lot to me.

Taylormama · 13/04/2007 08:21

yep Manuka - am a Jewish mummy and i am practising telling my DS to "eat up" LOL!

I know of quite a few people who have married out including DH's cousin so it is common.

To be honest when i started this thread i thought there may be more people popping up to say hi - as you say MN has loads of members.

Thats true its not a lot is it? I wonder if most of the community are too busy cooking?! I know my sister is! She has enough religion for the whole family and half the street too!!
I used to really hate being Jewish when I was little. I always felt 'different' but now I really enjoy the spiritual side to it all it makes me think very deeply!
There's a good Jewish school nearby so will be sending dd there. I think she needs to know her heritage and dh is happy with that luckily.
Where I live there are quite a few snooty Jewish mums which makes me really annoyed but I suppose there are snooty women in all religions!
Anyway its nice to meet some Jewish mumsnetters!
I'm so crap with it all can someone tell me why the cheesecake on shavuot?
