I didn't know about this. What a good idea.

Mine love eating their fruit whilst I try to do as much shopping as I can before they finish and they resume arguing with each other!

There's never any fruit on the stand at the entrance to our Tesco ....

My dad always takes DS on a little trip to Tesco to get free fruit. I don't think he always buys stuff either so he's probably going to ruin it for everyone else. Blush

I love the free fruit initiative. I have a 1yr old and a 2yr old and I make sure we leave the house every day, but money is tight and I can't always pay for lots of classes. Quite frequently our daily activity is "Go to Tesco!" and the kids love choosing their fruit to eat while I pick up the basics. It had made shopping in store so much easier - it's almost unbearable in any other store now and they pester me for stuff, but in Tesco it's wonderful.

Also, the staff at my local Tesco are wonderful with it. One day they had pears on the free fruit stall (a rarity and a real treat!) and my kids were so excited. When we came back the next time and they just had apples/bananas my two year old said "but I really wanted a pear today!" and a staff member overheard and tapped me on the back with a bag of pears she had opened for my kids.

All done - brilliant initiative, but I would welcome a few well placed bins for peels/cores. It's an arse being up near the bakery and getting them waved in your face. Hmm

This is such a great idea - my two hate shopping and this keeps them busy and their blood sugar levels up (so no grizzling).

Completed, I think this is a great ideaSmile

Ours has a bin next to the fruit. You can also take a (free) tiny plastic bag from nearby and put the peel in that if you want to 'peel as you go'.

I always buy a bag of apples or bananas when I go to the supermarket with my DC and raid it so they have a piece of fruit to eat on the way round. If we had a Tesco nearby we would definitely take advantage of this initiative

My dd does enjoy going to tesco for the free fruit. She loves all the free samples really eg cheese and crackers at the deli counter. It does make my shopping trip relatively easier although a bin for the leftover would be good.

Done. DS2 would wolf it down, DD won't touch fruit. You can't make a DC like something. Hmm

Completed this, mostly because I'm worried if we're not all effusive enough about it they might stop it, and it's the only way I can get my DC round Tesco without World War Three breaking out.

Except for that one time DS wiped some banana in DD's hair by accident

When did they start doing this? Is it just the big stores? We've only got the small metro ones near us.

A local healthfood store did this a couple of summers ago and I thought it was a great idea.

They've been doing it for a few months now in our local store. It's a medium sized store, not a superstore. No clothing, cafe etc, but bigger than a Tesco metro.

Mine love the free fruit. I definitely shop more there since they started doing this.
In my store they have placed a bin next to the fruit stall, this helps!

Great idea but I didn't know about it and have never seen it. Hoping doing the survey will up the promoting/visibility and we can enjoy the free fruit (or my dd can!)

It is an excellent idea. Only downside is the leftover cores/banana skins in the trolleys.

Report
MunchyMunchkin · 04/05/2017 09:48

It's such a good ideas and keeps my LO entertained for 5minutes. She always knows she's getting a banana when we go to Tesco so no whinging!
Only problem is sometimes the bananas are very green and not edible.

My Dc love the free fruit and it stops them moaning for a while when I have to go in Tesco.
We always have a fruit bowl at home but for some reason they find the Tesco free fruit very exciting Grin

My children love the free fruit and make a bee line for it the minute we start shopping. They are always disappointed if it is empty and it stops them moaning and trying to open packets of things going around the supermarket.
