well it seems that my hcg lvls havent decreased at all and tbh i think the hospital have got it wrong...... on sunday i went into the hospital and my hcg lvls were 679 and a cb digi said i was 1-2 weeks i went in on tuesday and apparently my hcg lvls were 379 so they thought i was having a early mc.......i took a cb digi last night and this morning with my morning wee and they both have said im 2-3 weeks now if my hcg were lower than sunday then surely the pregnancy test would show 1-2 weeks or more than likely not pregnant......some women i have spoken to say they lose their symptoms straight away after a mc and that they just feel empty and i havent felt any of this and have told the hospital over and over and also my parents that i dont feel any different i still feel pregnant and have done since tuesday when the hospital told me i had a mc............so im pretty damn sure im still pregnant and it shows how intune i am with my body.......im sorry im rambling on but my head is just all over the place....

why do they think you have mc'd? have you been bleeding? have you had a scan to rule out ep?

Report
hellymelly · 15/01/2011 21:37

Yes,did they scan you? If not you need to ask for a scan at the EPU to work out what is happening.

yes i had brown discrage(sorry tmi)i had a scan but as they said i was to early for them to see anything.......they took my blood on sunday to see wat my hcg lvls were and it was 679 then i went back on tuesday morning as i woke up at 4 on tuesday morning with brown dischargy stuff!.....they then took my hcg lvls again that morning to see if they had doubled from sunday but they hadnt....so they told me i had an early mc.....as i said if my hcg lvls had decreased so much surely the cb digi would not be showing my hcg lvls are rising obviously im over the moon but for the hosp to put me thru such raw emothion is horrible!

So sorry you are having to go through this Sad.

HCG levels should roughly double every 2 days, so a fall is bad news, I am afraid.
Clearblue digital tests are 'semiquantitative' ie they give you some indication of how far you might be, but they are far from accurate and certainly not suitable to tell you whether you have an ongoing pregnancy or not.
If you have not lost your pregnancy yet, the hormone levels will hang around until you pass everything.

I am so, so sorry. It is horrible to have to go through this. Are they going to see you back? Repeat the blood tests again?

I had brown discharge at that time too,and was scanned twice as initally it was too early for a heartbeat. My baby was fine, probably just implantation bleeding.

Implantation bleed?

If your last period was 1st Dec then you'd be about 7 weeks by now?

Report
OracleInaCoracle · 15/01/2011 21:45

ok, see if I understand this...

you are approx 6w pg
you have brown discharge
your HCG levels are multiplying
you had a scan and they couldnt see anything in the womb
but they are saying that they cant see anything in the tubes either.

AtYourCervix · 15/01/2011 21:45

what was the surgery for?

are you having further HCG monitoring?

are you bleeding?

do you have pain~?

Report
PacificDogwood · 15/01/2011 21:45

Sorry, x-post.

By LMP you are around 6 weeks - you could be scanned, particularly with an internal (vaginal) scan a viable pregnancy would be visible usually.

lissie, levels went from over 600 to 300 odd, non??

if your hcg levels are dropping then it is unlikely your pregnancy is viable. Sad

If your last period was on 1 December then that would make you six weeks pregnant and a scan should be able to detect a heartbeat at this stage.

But I'm sorry to say that the dropping hcg levels alone speak for themselves. Sad Pregnancy tests are not a good indicator - blood tests are the only way you can accurately measure your hcg levels.

Symptoms are, I'm afraid, not an indicator either. There are plenty of posts from women on here who have had missed miscarriages where the baby stops growing at 7/8 weeks and they don't find out until 12 weeks and don't think anything is wrong because their symptoms haven't changed. This is because if the pregnancy has not been lost then some hcg will remain and the symptoms will persist.

I am so sorry.

which hospital is this? is there another one you can go to?

Report
daretodream · 15/01/2011 21:50

I think the levels falling is the key here. They double quickly, they don't fall if the pregnancy is going successfully.
The blood test is more reliable than the Clearblue test.

It doesn't soundlike good news, I agree with lissie. So sorry you have to go through this.

Report
PacificDogwood · 15/01/2011 21:53

Your GP can check your HCG levels again.

It sounds like you'd find a scan more convincing though? I there another hospital/early pregnancy unit you could go to?

I had 4x missed MCs and always had ongoing pregnancy symptoms until I had actually lost the pregnancy, sorry. It is crap and unfair, but I'd prepare myself for bad news if I was you Sad.

Sometimes, HCG can drop because a woman has lost a twin (or triplet) from a pregnancy.

Can you sit it out and wait a few weeks - see what the blood tests say then?

Report
wannaBe · 15/01/2011 21:54

op, hcg dropping at twelve weeks is normal. The hcg multiplies for the first few months of pregnancy, hence why symptoms are so strong in the beginning, but at twelve weeks they begin to drop. This is why a pregnancy test taken after twelve weeks is not accurate and can even show up negative.

During the first few weeks of pregnancy hcg levels should double every two days. If your hcg levels are dropping then your pregnancy is not viable.

I'm sorry, it's horrible, all you can do is wait it out I'm afraid. Sad

OracleInaCoracle · 15/01/2011 21:54

totally agree with wannabe. by all means insist on another scan and further blood tests, but HPT's cant tell you if a pg is progressing, blood tests and scans are much more accurate indicators. I understand how you feel and the need to cling onto any hope, but (harsh as this sounds) I think you need to prepare yourself.

be kind to yourself and keep talking on here xxx
