I have just received a panicked phone call off my sister-in-law, she is pregnant with triplets and already has 9 DC aged,14,12,10,8,7,4,3,15 mths and 4 mths! She is distraught at the prospect of having three more especially given how close in age the youngest 2 children are. To add to this her husband is delighted! He loves children and wanted more even though they agreed to stop at 9. Does anyone know of or have such a large family (I have a big family but not nearly as big as this) or know of anyone, I just would like to reassure her that it can work.

Pffffffffff

frakkinstein · 03/11/2010 14:23

Oh my oh my oh my.....

The largest I know of is 10 singleton children so it can work and they're all beautifully behaved and very responsible.

SagacityNell · 03/11/2010 14:25
Hmm
fel1x · 03/11/2010 14:28

Wow!
Not sure why all the biscuits!!

I know someone with 9 children of similar (but slightly different) ages, so its perfectly possible!!

KateEllis · 03/11/2010 15:01

Slightly confused as to what the biscuits mean?I can see why it seems unlikely that was my reaction when she told me. I was just looking for anybody in a similar situation so I can reassure her, she is quite upset and lives abroad so doesn't have family near her.

Don't get the biscuits either but mil is one of 13 and only one set of twins in there!

zipzap456 · 03/11/2010 15:36

What does a biscuit mean' My friend is one of thirteen and they all get along quite happily. Dont know what else to say. Hope she's ok :-)

LaurieScaryCake · 03/11/2010 15:39

How do they know it's triplets this early Confused

If her youngest is only 4 months old then she is only maximum 8 weeks pregnant, can you know that early?

That is a huge family but it was much more common before the advent of the Pill. I know loads of families who were one of 12/13/14.

JustKeepSparkling · 03/11/2010 15:43

Just to butt in on the maths:

youngest could be anything from 16weeks- 20wks (ie not quite 5 months)

scan at 12 weeks would clearly show triplets

she may have had an earlier scan that would show triplets

she's obv a fertile lady :)

from my POV, wow & OMG, hope it all goes well, cannot imagine dealing with all those kids and last 5 so close together, good luck to her :)

wouldliketoknow · 03/11/2010 15:44

heart beat can be found at 6/7 weeks, the sonographer can identify them individually.

if they are happy is ok, she must have a lot of pacience...

i don't know why all teh biscuits either,

wrt to teh pregnancy only being 8 weeks because the youngest is 4 months, that is wrong. my grandmother got pregnant twice within a month of giving birth so it is quite possible this pregnancy is more than 12 weeks progressed. i had my first scan at 12 weeks and you could tell how many babies were there.

booyhoo · 03/11/2010 17:10

OH, yes and i have no advice for your SIL except to wish her good luck and hope she has plenty of support

bigchris · 03/11/2010 17:10

I'd give her condoms for her Xmas present Grin

SecretNutellaFix · 03/11/2010 17:12

I am going to ask a pretty obvious question.

Given that she didn't want any more, why were they not using at least 2 methods of contraception to stop this from happening? She knows how it happens.

I hope she is ok though.

SecretNutellaFix · 03/11/2010 17:15

didn't you just do that tether?Wink

tegan · 03/11/2010 17:21

well congrats and good luck

KateEllis · 03/11/2010 17:23

Bigchris - that made me laugh it's exactly what my husband (her brother) said!

SecretNutellaFix- I have been wondering this myself, she said after her DD (no.9) was born she would be def going on pill until her DH had a vasectomy. Tbh he's the sort of man who is very controlling and I think he wanted to have one more but now ended up with triplets.

Also she is not on benefits, actually the are quite well off, and live in Canada.

Thanks everyone for the replies!

i'm eldest of 10.

I think even my mum would have cried a little bit at the though of triplets after 9.

Hullygully · 03/11/2010 17:28

dear lord

phipps · 03/11/2010 17:32

I suspect the biscuits are because people don't believe this is a true story.
