Fabulous article! I wonder what netmums interpretation of the encounter with Harriet Harman would be though?

Hello Janice Turner, Harriet Harman et al!!

from the article - "What better place to start listening than mumsnet?

And what worse place too. Because the unedited, conflicting, whingeing, piss-taking outpourings of ten thousands of lives is a modern Babel. A minister might learn a lot, if it doesn?t first send her mad"

I like the comparison to Babel.

I think I used to know who Janice Turner was on mumsnet but I have forgotten, and it was a long time ago, and she has probably changed her talk name anyway.

Good article - really wish I'd been a fly on the wall seeing Harriet being surrounded by internet people. I hope Justine got Harriet's full attention - I bet she did. I can't see how a minister could possibly choose any other parenting site, thb, as this one is so big, active and fiesty. I wonder if it was Tom from fathersdirect?

I have this awful vision though, of ministers and govt people getting addicted to mumsnet, logging on when they should be working, neglecting their constituencies, not bothering to attend the house of commons, touting for votes here before an election, then a scandle as someone tech person blows the whistle on a minister's internet habits during working hours!

Really nice article, janice (whoever you are!)
It's so true about women not using chatrooms as anything other than an extension of the female networks they might have in rl. I have to say though, to the men who post on MN, I don't think of you as geeky unloved male spods!
Now, slashdot.com....there's a different matter

"Why pour millions of parents? tax pounds into something that is doing very nicely thanks in the private sector?"

Exactly!

good article

I remeber the days when The Fawcett Society was rather less organised and I tried to suggest they look in to getting chatty on the web. Ten years later.............

I don't see why there has to be any rivalry between netmums and mumsnet though tbh - apart from the name confusion - they are completely different and serve different purposes (netmums is a local site for local people for a start )
