How many times would you say you fill yours during the course of a period?

I think Franny said it was about three times for a whole period, but let's just say I'm ahead of that on day two alone... and [ow]

I'm thinking of getting a ticker... [wry grin]

It's been a while, but I think mine filled up about 2-3 times a day for the first couple of days!

Report
hunkermunker · 27/05/2007 23:31

And it's full to the brim three times a day?

TM, not as much as babies heads

No, you fold it in four to put it in and it's not much bigger than a tampon then.

2-3 times on day1

then once a day, with only a tiny bit in

This is one of those questions you just CAN'T ask in RL, isn't it?!

I was searching on this for the average, hunker, and got loads of different answers

I would fill mine probably 1 to 1.5 times

unimpressive, eh?

sorry you are suffering

Oh, and I feel for you btw Hunker. Periods are bloody horrible aren't they? And I know you have a particularly bad time.

Have just checked again, and while the Mooncup website says it holds 30 ml which they reckon is a third of the average amount, Wiki says anything more than 80 ml is unusual. Tbh I have only had a light period for years, so more than 80ml would be unusual for me, but I wouldn't think it would be WILDLY unusual for most women?

hunkermunker · 27/05/2007 23:39

Vile, TM, vile.

And this isn't as bad as it was. Nowhere near. I'm able to sit in a chair, which is better than it used to be (felt like I was sitting with a spike up my backside at certain times of the month before I had the boys).

And I'm not getting cold sweats, nausea and shakes. I haven't fainted. I don't scream when I turn over in bed because my insides are glued together with adhesions.

So all good stuff and a definite improvement on before the boys.

But I've been adding up and I've only had 13 periods in 48 months (since I got pg with DS1). And people wonder why I'm so passionate about bfeeding

FaZ, I think that if more than 80ml is unusual I'm unusual. But I already knew that given that most women don't need an operation every couple of years to sort out their periods!

I fill mine at least twice a day on the first 2 days.

FrannyandZooey · 27/05/2007 23:52

Hunker, have just thought, your results on here may be skewed

I think women with heavier than normal periods are much more likely to have a Mooncup than someone with a light flow - because it holds more, is more comfortable and costs less

hunkermunker · 27/05/2007 23:54

Yes, you're right.

Will make me feel better (well, less alone) to have fellow copious clot-gatherers though

Geting a mooncup made me realise just how abnormal my periods are I have 10 day periods, and for 8 days of it I will fill to the brim my mooncup 3 times a day..at least I'm a complete period wierdo though!

3 times a day, sometimes more if i'm feeling cautious. the first few periods were darker, more clotty etc but lately they've been lovely and bright red and mucusy, which i happen to know is the sort of period that chinese medicine stries to achieve. (because i was talking to a chinese practitioner about it).

i think by month three of using a mooncup i noticed a hyoooo-uuuge change in pain, flow, amount, clots, coour etc. it's a lovely science experiment as much as anything else.

to put it in first of all, i recommend doing it in the shower. squat on the floor, bear down, fold the thingie and insert. and then twist to make sure it's on properly. nowadays i'm getting so clever/gross that i kegels for a while before puting the mooncup in and it gets rid of a lot of the worst of it down the drain. is that insanitary?

Report
hunkermunker · 28/05/2007 01:18

Brighter red sounds positive, Aitch!

When you say you empty it three times a day, do you mean you it's full when you do?

I have to use a pad as well at the start of my period - but not for as long as I did before I started using a mc.

And no, not unsanitary, I don't think. It's only blood, innit.

yes, it'd be full three times a day and probably more on a heavy day so if i empty it more it's probably not. tbh i just empty it every time i go to the loo.
i give it a wipe with the loo roll to dab off the excess and then rinse it under a tap or sluice with a bottle of water.
i'm really hopeful that it'll help you, just because i think that a lot of the pain i was getting was from the are bein dehydrated by a tampon, iykwim? it won't solve all your problems but it's a start.

Mine would runneth over in a similar manner HM, onthe first two days, it should have come with a free tub of napisan IMO.

I didn't use mine this month, crossed back to the dark side and used tampax and I hardly noticed my period was there at all.

Sometimes, after 25years of mentruation it's quite pleasant not to have to see your own blood on your hands, wouldn't you say?

this is a TMI thread is it not?

SW, I don't mind blood - am used to it - doesn't matter what sanpro I use, it's a bloody event, shall we say...

I agree with the "it feels like I'm pulling an open umbrella out" when using tampons - dessicated, def. Except at the beginning when what was the point of it being there at all?! Like trying to stop the Nile in full flow with a small cotton wool chipolata!

i probably dont fill it to the top at all during the whole period.

(by that i mean if you added it all together)

I also only empty mine (which is neevr more than 1/3 full) once per 24 hours)

NannyL · 28/05/2007 10:30

i also dont get blood on my hands at all
