Hi everyone, sorry I've been MIA, Christmas has been busy and we've suffered a bereavement. All the more reason to look forward and look after ourselves.
I think I'm going to stick to my previous goals and attempt to consolidate my previous (mixed) success.
(1) 8.5k steps
(2) 7 fruit and veg (erring on the side of more veg)
(3) ten minutes yoga
I could do with adding some mindfulness in but I want to get my other goals on a solid footing first. I will add in:
(4) Do something nice for myself every day
What are your low key, positive commitments for January (starting tomorrow, natch).

Thank you for the new thread & encouragement Alice.

So very sorry to hear of your loss Flowers

I massively overdid yesterday (not NYE celebrations, I was in bed by 10 with a headache) 14k steps and on the go for hours! 6 veg & 1 fruit.

Best to skip over today as I've been asleep for hours & the Christmas chocs needing finishing off. My goals are below.

My goals for January

(1)10,000 steps
(2)5 fruit/veg
(3)Back on the bike for 5 minutes per day

& after the 21st I'll restrict my treats to one per day & start My Fitness Pal shortly thereafter (February perhaps)

Happy new year folks, and sorry to hear about your bereavement Alice - must be especially hard at this time of year.

I had an attempt at walking today but only managed 5K steps as DD whinged then needed the loo so we had to head back. Not the most illustrious start!

My aims are:

  • 8K steps a day
  • 250kcals daily treat limit (as suggested by Alice on previous thread).
  • 5 a day.

I haven't dared to weigh myself yet. Plus I have a family weekend coming up next weekend & schools are off till Tue 10th, so I have a few challenges ahead.

Sorry for your loss Alice.

Hi everyone.

I like the 250cal treat goal so that's one of mine.

The others are 9k steps and 5 a day. I think 7 a day wasn't great for me and I felt bad at failing.

Here's to a healthy 2017 everyone.

Prosecco our schools/work are not back till the 9th so it is that limbo time.
I'm taking down the tree today and cleaning out the fridge. Hopefully that will help.

10k steps met yesterday & today. Veg on target today, a bit short yesterday. Failing on the bike though. I've been spring cleaning instead!

AliceInHinterland · 03/01/2017 22:24

I do think a good spring clean does wonders for the spirit! I've been decorating which should give me a more calm and peaceful environment (stuff all crammed in to other rooms at the moment).
Thank you for all of your kind words.
Yesterday 13.5k steps and hit veg target, today 8.8k and five fruit and veg, felt like an okay balanced day so I'm pleased with that.
Five veg cut up for snacking tomorrow, and a few errands to run for my steps.

Somehow I've managed 8K steps the last couple of days, despite not being on any walks. Yesterday was spent hanging around a freezing adventure playground for 4 hours & today it was soft play. Have managed my 5 a day & stayed with 250kcals at snacks.

Am back to work tomorrow, which will be good for the diet but bad for steps. Then off again till next Tuesday & away for a family weekend - so the diet will be out the pot, just when I'm getting back in to things again.

Really wishing I could get some proper exercise in. Maybe I could book the kids in to childcare while we're away, and get up a hill.....

10K steps, 2 f&v Blush, no snacks.

I'm going to put a reminder on my phone about the 5 a day. Since Christmas I cannot work it back in. I guess it's in my meals but I like to try and eat them raw. Am I failing myself.

Veg & steps hit... still no sign of yoga, I've been decorating instead!

Veg and steps met yesterday as well. I spring cleaned some more so the bike has been retired for the time being. I have a lot going on and cleaning makes me feel better and as if I'm in some sort of control.

Evening! I'm on 9.5K steps despite no proper walking today; had the kids on my own so no opportunity whilst I was trying to get organised for going away this weekend. And have done my 5 a day. I did nibble a bit, so didn't count my calories for snacks, but it's a huge improvement from a week ago.

Onwards & upwards!

9.5k with no proper walking sounds like a busy day Prosecco, those kids must be running you ragged!
Yesterday I did 7 fruit/veg but no exercise, today 7 fruit/veg and some yoga, 6.5k steps, an okay day.
I am putting on weight though rather than losing it so I need some kind of fairly urgent intervention, I think I've reached a point in my life where I can't get away with being greedy any more.
So I'm adding a new goal. This will be my key focus. It's a big one for me:
No snacks other than (1) plain fruit, nuts and veg (2) one 250cal treat. Everything else must be part of a main meal. Gulp.

Alice I'm going to copy your food allowance as I'm piling on weight. We have loads of birthday meals and social stuff this month so I'm starting properly late January, honest.

The steps are still 10k but I. I'm not kidding myself that just stepping is enough! My problem is overeating, comfort eating as well at the moment.Sad

Prosecco what a busy day to do so many steps with running after children!

Well I forgot my Fitbit today, so who knows on that front, out and about a bit so not too bad if I had to guess.
I've done well on the snacking front, with just almonds, apples and one 'treat' snack but because I wasn't grazing all day I didn't hit my fruit and veg. I figure that's not too bad an exchange, I think I probably had about 4-5 servings any way.
I'm feeling positive that the snack restrictions could work well, and I'm going to pour my mental energy into that.
How are you all getting on? January is a tough month!

January is a tough month!

I'be planned all my meals for the week and lots of fruit and veg.

Hitting the 9k steps.

Saving my treats for a pizza on the weekend.

Sounds like you're doing well Stellar I always get a sudden mental block when it comes to planning my meals. Any inspiration for me?
I've done yoga, fruit and veg and my snack plan (3 delicious biscuits!) but not the walking, in fact I haven't left the house today, but still managed 4.5k from pottering, tidying and painting.

Hello all. I'm just back from my family weekend away & it's all gone to pot a bit Blush.

Step-wise I've been getting to an average of 10K, but mostly at toddler speed. Diet-wise: the least said the better.

Back to work tomorrow & in to the usual routine. I'm going to do a 5:2 day to kick-start. It seems to be the only thing that works for me.

Onwards & upwards!

Alice my meals are a bit dull as mainly eating from freezer and pleasing dcs

Monday - salmon and salad
Tuesday - chilli and veg
Weds - sausage casserole ( I'm having. Linda MAcartney sausages)
Thursday - veg fajitas (no wraps)
Friday - pasta salad
Sat - pizza
Sunday - goulash

I'm going to either avoid or have small portions of pasta and rice. DC1 has ASD so he has to have some sort of beige crunch like garlic bread or similar but we try him out on things. We also eat more veggie when DH is away.

Yesterday 12k steps, no yoga, 5 F&V

Can I join?

Healthy habits for 2017:
Eat five portions of veg and two portions of fruit every day
Drink two litres of water every day
Swim 1km twice a week
Walk for 30 minutes every day
One exercise class a week (currently Aquafit)

Have been successful with the fruit and veg, water and swimming so far, but failed on the walking yesterday as it was raining heavily and my hip was stiff after orienteering on Sunday. On the plus side the orienteering racked up 16k steps!

I'm looking at doing either yoga or Pilates as I'm lacking strength exercise, but I can't find a class that fits around everything else. Might try home practice with a DVD.

Jemima crikey you put me to shame! I thought my 10k steps was fair but 16k, and swim 1km twice per week!

10k steps today, so-so on the steps this week as I've been mostly sleeping off a bug of some sort. Hopefully it's going as I'm not so dog tired today.

Jemima you are very welcome to join us and your targets sound great, we try to check in daily. I have recommended Movement for Modern Life, an online yoga subscription, it costs money but has a good variety (and a couple of Pilates classes).
Prosecco I've gone to pot today attending a (different) family funeral but rules were made to be broken. Sometimes you have to concentrate on the people not the food! I actually haven't eaten as much rubbish food as I would have liked on my designated day off.
That food all sounds good Stellar I love a good goulash.
Hi told, get well soon, listen to your body, you don't seem like someone who skips your steps without a very good excuse.

I've managed 11K steps & a 5:2 day. I did a proper walk to school & back, tidied the living room & kitchen. Tomorrow is an office day so it won't be good steps-wise, but I'm feeling much more positive & back on track.

I've noticed it's not getting dark till 4.15ish, and am looking forward to the lighter nights - bring it on!

Yes to longer days!
I've hit my step target today partly thanks to an aggressive man shouting obscenities near my house, so I had to take the long route home to avoid him - will check in later with the rest.
