As anyone got lung scaring or shadows that have turned out not to be serious?

I have. I had pneumonia in infancy, afaik about two or three months old, and again 18 months ago. Got a chest infection today - yesterday I had what I thought was hayfever very mild sniffle, and today full scale chest infection
Apparently the pneumonia has left shaddowing and every time I have a chest x-ray they have a fit until they dig through my history. Try not to panic too much, I really feel for you with the worry. Have you had any lung problems as a child? (oh and fwiw a friend has recently had a major investigation and it turned out to be a "birth mark"

DH has a small amount of scaring due to sarcoidosis. Although he had a cough initially, he doesn't have any problems now.

When will you get to see the consultant?

Thanks haven't had pneumonia or chest infection, but did have whooping cough as a child and asthma.

I had an x-ray after an allergic reaction (first one) and they said x-ray showed bilateral airspace shadowing?
Had a letter saying I'd been referred and would need another chest x-ray and lung function test.
I have an appointment for two weeks time for results.

I had another allergic reaction on Thursday night and mentioned about the x-ray, which the doctor looked at and wrote down on my notes ? idopathic pulmanary fibrosis?
The Gp said most likely cause in my age would be sarcoidosis.
After my lung function test, I asked if I'd done ok, and the nurse said, she couldn't discuss the results but was going to take them up to the consultant on the ward? which worried me even further!
Until a month ago I've never been ill, I do get out of breath when running about and sometimes pain across my chest, but but it down to age.
After both allergic reactions I've had a few days on steriods, and I've noticed I feel allot better and don't get out of breath so easily.
Just which I could fast forward two weeks.

Whatever you do, don't google "sarcoidosis". The websites tend to be in the US and are mainly frequented by people with very severe symptoms. My dh has had it for about 6 years now, and I can honestly say that other than than some initial tiredness and a few scars on his skin from the lesions, it really doesn't give him any problems.

Thanks Littlefish, I also know a friends dh who has it and doesn't cause him many problems.
Just find the waiting awful, just want to know what, I'm facing, If anything.

I suppose at this stage they don't know and need to investigate. I had a shadowing as a result of pneumonia/ allergic aveolitis. Until all the tests are done it is very worrying ( I was in HDU at the time so not able to google!) but the tests are as much to rule things out. It turned out for me that my asthma had been undertreated . I was re scanned some months later ( to give the condition a chance to recover) and all was clear ( well apart from a little fibrosis and less stable asthma). Staff not telling you the results is really difficult but they probably are not supposed to.

Just to put your mind a small bit at rest, the lung function nurse's way of not discussing the results and bringing it to consultant is completely standard. Doesn't mean anything bad. I'm not sure why this happens though as it would be reassuring to get the results immediately.

Try not to worry, lung shadows can be caused by so many things. I had some on mine after an x-ray. I got a big fright and had to go for a contrast ct - it only turned out to be sarcoidosis.

Ooh good you have an appointment for the CT scan. I think CT scans give more information or a clearer image than xray. I guess the wait although difficult for you, shows it is not considered urgent which is also good.
Meant to say that it is normal for the LFT scientist ( I dont know their proper title) not to tell you about the lung function tests. The specialist gets the job of interepreting all the results and discussing with you.

Thanks Magso, shrek. Wonder if I'll get a letter for a biopsy next, or are they done the same time as the ct? I so wish I wasn't such an impatient person!

LargeGlass, I had shadowing typical of pneumonia on one lung. I would not have thought I had pneumonia. Some pneumonia is 'walking pneumonia' and would not seem to be anything worse than cold/flu. I had been to the doctor re something different and had mri. The shadowing showed up on mri scan. Would have been none the wiser except for this.

I went on course of 2 types of antibiotic. Then I had a branchoscopy (i think biopsies were taken during this) and ct scan. These thankfully were clear. The nurse/technician (as yours) would not give any information wrt Lung function test. These turned out to be normal at consultant appointment.

You may have had pneumonia without knowing it. I would have said same as you before mri scan.

I was out of my mind with worry of course, so I understand how the mind contemplates all the possibilities. Bear in mind there may be a simple explanation.

Are you still seeing the specialist in 2 weeks time? CT scans are kind of more sophisticated xrays in my simple opinion so I assume because they had told you you would need repeat xray/ imaging they sent the appontment out without further discussion. It is very hard to wait I know. Try not to worry - I know that is hard.

Thanks John and Magso, I have an appointment to see a thoratic consultant on the 31st.
It never rains but it pours just got back from 36 hours on the childrens ward with dt1 with pneumonia, praying for sleep tonight!
