iPad and iPhone running low on storage help

I have been googling aimlessly for days to try to get an answer, please help!

My iPad and iPhone are both saying I'm running low in space. I've checked where I'm using the memory and it's all in photos and videos, which I want to keep.

I pay every month for extra iCloud storage but I can't work out how to access this to check if they photos are securely stored in there and I need to be able to access these photos and videos occasionally. I'm worried if I delete them from my device they will be gone forever.

I'm now thinking about getting an external hard drive with wireless to save from both units into this but I'm bemused by the choice and unsure which one to go for.

If anyone could offer advice I'd be really grateful. I need to get all this backed up and free up storage before Christmas to get lots of photos and videos to add to the collection then. Thanks

Try googling iCloud storage or look on the apple.com site for iCloud storage.

I've done that and logged into my iCloud but I can see how to view what I've saved and whether if I delete on my iPad it stays on the iCloud [useless]

Get an images or picture or something from the internet, that you don't care about. Save that to your phone. Log in to the cloud from a web browser to check the image has made it into the cloud and then delete it from your phone and check its still in the cloud. Hope that reassures you.

I was amazed how simple it was, when i first started using the cloud. This test is reassuring. Or you could take a picture of 'anything' you don't care about to do the same test.

Have you got the optimising photo storage button checked in settings? It compresses your photos on your device and makes lots more room.

Just jumping in, hoping for an answer. Had a baby this year so obviously hundreds of photos! Phone keeps shouting that it's full on iCloud but I can figure how to see them!

In the meantime I have got an external hardrive and do save them to my computer and the hardrive and then delete but this only seems to fix it temporarily until it's full again - because it's iCloud that's full, not the device.

I use Dropbox.
Download the app
open the app it syncs photos automatically
Download Dropbox into your PC
Check photos are there
Delete from phone

And also check your deleted photos folder on your photos too. I only recently realised this contributes to your storage.

Yes I have already optimised photos.

Problem is finally I can't work out how to view everything on the iCloud from a browser. I can log in but then I can't see where to see all my stuff. I'll go and try again

Red I tried looking into Dropbox last night but got confused and gave up but may give it a go again. I didn't realise about the trash thing, off to check that now.

Nope I log into iCloud and just get a page with my address and if I want to change my password etc, I can't see how I find my photos [fed up].

There's a wonderful tool for Windows called Ccleaner. It removes all sorts of shit from your hard drive and speeds up your pc. Is there an equivalent tool that works for ios devices?
