What cereal bars do you give your children?

Just doing my shopping list and trying to add a few more things for the dss' lunch boxes - lots of you seem to put 'cereal' bars in but I'm just wondering if you know which are the nicest healthiest ones iyswim?

Any other little bits I could add to the lunchbox that require no effort would be good too! They tend to have sandwiches, crackers, raisins, apple, banana, pots of peach in juice, yoghurt, cubes of cheese, muffin, occasionally low fat crisps or a breakaway type biscuit (oh not all in one lunch of course!).

Oh, and sorry if I don't reply for a while - doing the bath, bed routine now...

TIA

Organix Goodies look pretty healthy. Most of the cereal-based ones have loads of fat and sugar. But the lunches you are giving them sound pretty good already, GDG - if they are happy with what they're getting I wouldn't tinker!

DD's only 2 but she seems to love the Organix ones.

The Goodies ones are lovely - and they do dipper pots too

lol at "organic wheat flower" in the dippers ingredients list!

Why not rustle up a tray of flapjacks? Cheap, easy and you'll know exactly what's in them.

My flapjacks always go wrong and you know I am not a novice in the kitchen. Either dried up or crumbly. What do I do wrong do you suppose Moondog?

MD - honestly, I despair.

Why not rustle up organic flapjacks dipped in breastmilk yoghurt?

That's what she meant to say, GDG, I'm sure.

Not enough breastmilk, LM

Why lm, I am flattered that you ask my advice!!!
I would assume that they need more fat?

You naughty you hunker!!!!

Well, you are the queen of feeding your children good and wholesome food so of course I bow to your superior wisdom! Personally, to answer GDG, I buy Tescos own choc chip bars, but maybe that is because I have given up on making flapjacks after so many failures. More fat you think? But I follow recipes which should work, shouldn't they?

Maybe. Should try them again while I am with a different oven maybe.

Try shortbread. Pice of piss. Even I can make this and I am not good at cooking sweet things.

I buy those Organix Goodies but for dd. I suppose if I were going to put a cereal bar in his lunch it would be one of those. No criticism, just hasn't occurred to me to do it for him!

I was going to reply to this thread but I just can't bear to say 'Yes, I agree with www' once more...

For flapjack I put in golden syrup and to make them gooey and take them out of the oven when they still look a bit underdone otherwise they end up too dry and hard.

Fruity flapjack is nice - just stir in some sultanas and chopped dried apricots or whatever else you fancy (!) after the oats.

dd likes those bars that are meant to be a breakfast substitute for adults (can't remember the name) they are a cereal bar with a fruity centre.
