Has anyone bought any Christmas food yet?

I am doing well with presents but thought I might start adding a few things to the weekly shop.Spread the load.

i've bought practically all my christmas food. Waitrose order dates were released over a week ago. haven't even thought about presents - will leave that till early december

Bought the stuff to make Christmas cake. Thinking about making rocky road as gifts obv much nearer to the time but unsure how long it keeps. Will make gingerbread syrup next week I think. Also considering making some flavoured vodka as we have been bought a bottle but don't drink it.

I've started picking up things like nuts and chocolate. Just waiting for Aldi to get their Christmas stuff in now.

I was in Aldi yesterday EGA and they had their puddings and mince pies in may have bought some and accidently eaten them

Gingerbread Syrup
2 cups water
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
2 1/2 teaspoons ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Combine the water, sugar, cinnamon, ginger, and vanilla in a small to medium saucepan.
Bring mixture to a boil then reduce heat and simmer uncovered for 20 minutes. When done, pour into a melt-proof container and let cool. It will thicken a bit more once cooled.

Made our cake and have another two to make today so there are bowls full of dried fruit soaking in brandy in the kitchen for later but other than that, nothing is done, bought or thought about for Christmas yet.

glen I haven't been in for over a week so must have just arrived. I always get Christmas stuff from there its loads cheaper.

Well I've ordered the turkey from the village butcher and he let's you prepay on installments and you get a 10% discount that way.

I have my salmon for starters in the freezer .. thats as far as I have got .. whitecherry I'll be impressed if you still have that tin of quality street at xmas ...

Nope. I have a budget and will be buying everything for Xmas on about the 22nd December. Will be my weekly shop. Don't bother ordering anything - just get it one foul swoop. We might have a few christmassy treats between then and now.
Xmas falls on an easy day this year (Tuesday) and I'm off on the Monday so plenty of time to get stocked up and the shops will only be shut for a day and there's only so much any family can eat during one day.

It's not just about food for one day though. Once Iv'e put the tree up the quality streets and nuts come out. Over the course of christmas and until the decs come back down again there is lots of food and lots of booze in my house. It might only be some little nibbly bits or satsumas or naice biscuits but to me thats what christmas is about. Cheering yourself up over the darkest days of winter.

I have bought a dozen mince pies and DCs have eaten the lot in packed lunches. It's like this til mid January in our house...

I made that sound really grumpy. There will be lots of treats during the festivities and lots of visitors too. I just don't get too wound up because if we do run out the shops are open again now on Boxing Day.

We usually go through a tin of roses, some terry choc orangy things, other sweets and chocs, mince pies, cake ( birthday in this house ), ham on Xmas eve, Turkey and all trimmings on Xmas day, cold meat on Boxing Day and my real proper v traditional trifle, turkey and ham pie on the day after and lashings of smoked salmon, cheese and booze. I just do a very very loaded trolley a few days before.

I've done a fantasy ocado shop adding anything and everything I fancied to by online basket... food, booze, gifts, party stuff, and nice things for me, some decorations etc... £1660 later, I think I had better not get carried away when doing the actual shopping!
