Bakers out there - cakes

My daughter wants a specific birthday cake which will involve 2 dome shapes being used. Have no idea how to do this, am prepared to buy one but can't find one online. Also have left it quite late! So can I make a cake in a heatproof pudding bowl (glass?)

Yes you can. You can make a cake in almost anything! Don't forget to grease it really well.

Ohhh, I have made that before! What you could do is make the bottom bit, the stalk in the pudding bowl and make the top but in an ordinary cake tin. It's easier to balance that way. Like this shape, but obviously lovely and pretty like the other one!

Might I add, if you do use a pudding bowl or whatever where the sides don't come off, for fear of it getting stuck (absolute nightmare!) as mentioned, you must grease well. This can make the cake greasy so you must dust it with flour too.

You could also use a large tin, like one of those giant ones of baked beans, as a mould for the stalk.

Ladies, why thank you for the brilliant ideas!

As it happens I popped over to my mums this morning and raided the cupboard there (from a billion years ago like my birthday!!!) and she had a bundt cake tin and a smaller but quite deep cake tin. And I think it is going to look mega cute! I will fill in the bundt hole with either a cupcake or perhaps sweetied, who knows but it will be done. I have bought a huge silver cake thingy (you know that you put christmas cakes etc on) which I am going to cover in green icing, then put the cake on. I have also ordered some bright pink fondant icing for the top, thinking some white choccie buttons to decorate the shroom and some edible glitter which I already have.

What else do you think I can use to make it look gorgeous? I want it to look like a mushroom house so perhpas little windows? Any suggestions? I thought maybe some mini chocolate fingers stuck on? I will do my best, won't be till the end of the week though as don't need to do it until friday - also have never uploaded a photo before might have to show it off though if it is good! How to hopefully make a 3 year olds day. (Obviously though with all the mummy's coming I won't be trying to make myself look like a doemstic goddess or anything )

Figgyrolls - can I suggest making it a couple of days before you need it just in case! Strawberry lace sweets are good for making window frames etc - not the fizzy ones for a 3 yr old as probably won't like them

Oh i maDE THIS CAKE FOR MY DAUGHTER'S BIRTHDAY THIS YEAR, tURNED OUT REALLY WELL. yOU NEED A 1 LITRE PYREX BOWL AND A 1.3 LITRE ONE (TO GO ON TOP) (sorry caps lock on!!)

It was quite easy and i was so chuffed with how it turned out. Chimney on top would look fab (liquorish?)
