DH and I love to cosy up in the afternoon to watch these 'bad in a good way' films with a hot chocolate and a blanket. But some of them are just Bad, so I thought it would be helpful to have a thread for our recommendations and maybe pointers to when they might be on tv? My usual way of determining whether a film is worth watching (Rotten Tomatoes/IMDB) doesn't really apply to made for TV movies.

I will start.
Today at 11.15am channel 5 A Very Nutty Christmas is on - we watched this last week and really enjoyed it, it stars Melissa Hart from Sabrina and is pretty funny.

Tomorrow (22 Nov) Mrs Miracle 2, Miracle in Manhattan is on channel 5 at 11.15am. Now you don't have to have seen the first Mrs Miracle film as the plot isn't exactly taxing but if you want to it's on Christmas24 lots of times over December. I loved both of these films starring the wonderful Doris Roberts who plays a sort of visiting angel/Mary Poppins character.

Switched for Christmas 26 Nov 5pm Christmas24 (and many other showings) we really enjoyed this tale of identical twins swapping places at Christmas. One of the twins is a high powered career woman in the city who returns to her small home town for Christmas and bumps in to her old boyfriend.

Just in Time for Christmas- I can't find this on tv again (it was on last week) but it's on Prime Video and it's soo good. Christopher Lloyd and William Shatner are in it! It's about a woman who has to choose between a successful career or life in her small home town with her old boyfriend.

Christmas Everlasting is on Paramount on Dec 3 at 3.30pm, we really enjoyed this story of a high powered career woman from the city who returns to her home town to discover the true meaning of Christmas (and bumps into her old boyfriend).

A Christmas Snow Globe - this is one of our very favourites but I can't find it on anywhere! It's about a woman with a high powered city career who returns to her small home town for Christmas where she bumps into her old boyfriend.

Please tell me your recommendations! Smile

Thank you for this, I didn't realise there was a Mrs. Miracle 2 so I have set that to record.

I recently watched Crown For Christmas that has Winnie from The Wonder Years in it. (which IMDB describes as 'After getting fired from her job as a maid at a ritzy New York City hotel, Allie reluctantly accepts a temporary gig as the governess to a young girl who is part of a powerful family in Europe that lives in a castle.') and loved it. That is showing a few times on Christmas 24 and Christmas 24+ over the next few weeks.

Thank you OddBoots Crown for Christmas sounds fantastic and it's on Prime too in HD (I can't watch films if they're not in HD now, I've been utterly spoiledGrin).

Reminds me, I started watching My Christmas Prince and had to turn it off as it was AWFUL. Not to be confused with A Christmas Prince which by all accounts is very good and has a couple of sequels, all on Netflix I believe.

Brilliant, thanks so much for starting this thread OP!! I love a so bad it's good/storyline writes itself Christmas film. I had heard the Melissa Joan Hart one was good, will look out for that.

My all time favourite of the genre is Stealing Christmas, with Tony Danza and Lea Thompson. Tony plays a hardened crook who escapes a heist in the big city, and ends up in small town (Evergreen - natch) - but will the good honest townsfolk take him to their hearts? Betty White is also in it.

It was i
It was on Channel 5 last Christmas so hopefully they'll show it again this year (although I still have it recorded Grin).

There's a good one on Netflix at the moment too, The Inheritance, about a gift store heiress who's about to learn life isn't all about money and glamour etc. A festively named small town may also be involved.

My other favourite is the one about the writers' retreat but its name has slipped my mind...

I enjoyed Crown for Christmas last year. Also enjoyed Christmas Lodge but not sure when it’s on.

I've only just spotted this thread and so pleased I did. It's so good to have recommendations and I love the Hallmark type Christmas movies.

I only have Freeview and watched some on Channel 5 last Christmas, but from these great posts it looks like I'll also find some on Paramount and Christmas 24.
Are there any other Freeview channels showing Christmas movies?

PrivateSpidey · 27/11/2019 21:51

Do you have the Sony channel Janet? They show them as well I think.

I have found my people...

@JanetCh Sony christmas channel is channel 50 on freeview. I also dont have sky.

Favourite films so far: oh Christmas tree, the christmas lodge, another christmas kiss (if you ignore the rapey kiss at the beginning). I also liked a Cinderella christmas and cried watching the one with Kirsten David as an angel. Also love anything with dogs in especially A golden christmas. Grin

Worst christmas film ever is santas summer house. Grim memories of lying on the sofa 10 weeks pregnant and vomiting my guts up to that one because DH had dropped the remote behind the sofa and I couldn't move to change channels.

I have a load recorded especially dog ones so at this rate I'll be watching christmas films in the summer. Blush

Me and my daughter have been watching christmas films since beginning of November 😂

Watched Christmas Joy a few days ago - quite enjoyed that. Let’s be honest they all have a happy ending.... but who cares!

Love a Christmas movie Ds and I do play bingo with them though, each year there seems to be one thing that appears in a lot, last year there always seemed to be a bandstand, this year always a part set at a skating rink and a lot with a single father and whatever the weather it always snows at the end! Agree with someone up thread Stealing Christmas is my all time favourite.

dancingthroughthedark Stealing Christmas fist bump! It's great isn't it? The chemistry between Tony and Lea is just off the charts!!

I must look up stealing christmas, see if I can watch it

They can't be any old Christmas films though - they HAVE to be Hallmark-esque cheesy fare

Found the Sony channelthank you. Don't seem to have Christmas 24 though, but should be able to find plenty on Channel 5, Sony and Paramount. I'm not so keen on the ones that aren't actually Hallmark, so setting my recroder to just record the Hallmark ones-but what about Marvista movies? Does anyone know if they are part of Hallmark?

Has anyone read any of the Hallmark romance novels?
Some of them seem to be have written after the movies were shown but others seem to be original stories (no movies for them yet)

We watched Just In Time for Christmas and it was lovely although ever so slightly implausible.

We also watched a romantic cruise ship film which was pretty dire. DH still gets angry thinking about it Grin

C5 Christmas films will be my new family tradition now that the children have grown out of The Polar Express.

Return to Christmas Creek and Homegrown Christmas both fit the cheesy bill perfectly. Both on Prime

I like Hallmark. You can always find wonderful movies. I have connected 4k android tv box www.infomir.eu/eng/products/android-stb/mag425A/. The quality of the movies in HD and the sound just pleases me. I recently watched the movie Alone House. That's great.
I'm glad that there are a lot of Christmas movies right now. It creates a mood

We enjoyed a Christmas Inheritance, and slightly oddly Christmas Chronicles, the latter apparently with a sequel due next year. The lead from High School Musicals seems to have transitioned to the Christmas genre, somewhat cheasy but The Knight before Christmas is worth a watch, although setting new standards for implausibility. at some point over the next few days A Christmas Prince - the Royal Bay will need to be taken on :) although, and not wishing a wet day on any of use, maybe as part of watching the full trilogy back to back.

I watched the shittiest one with Susan boyle in it, my goodness I’ve never seen such appalling acting.

I also watched a great one called Evil Nanny. I put it on to laugh at in the background but got seriously invested.
