Flattering running top suggestions please

I am looking for suggestions for a running top that isn't sheer or clingy and is reasonably flattering for a slightly overweight and wobbly middle aged woman. Just a basic, preferably dark-coloured, running top with short sleeves (or sleeveless), preferably longish as I'm fairly tall. Everywhere I look has tops that are see-through or tight over my spare tyre, or have too many cutaway bits that are not really designed for someone of my shape. Any suggestions?

No replies, but in case anyone else is looking for the same, I bought one today made by Under Armour. It's a basic v neck running t shirt & was around £18. Fits nicely, not too tight but fitted enough to be comfortable for running, not see through or clingy and reasonably flattering. I haven't run in it yet, but it feels comfortable.

This one from Sweaty Betty is quite long and loose. Nice, but £££.

I didn't see this before you found one, but in case you need to hunt again, try cycling tops. They seem to stay down rather better than many running ones.

UnderArmour is a brand I like (but usually only buy if I see it on offer)

Thanks AnnPerkins - that's a lovely top but not sure it would look good with my huge running bra with its 2 inch wide white straps showing underneath Grin! Maybe I just need a nicer bra. AuntieStella I will look at cycling tops next time - hadn't thought of that - thanks.

I run in anything, including a simple black t-shirt. Don't see need for special running clothes.

I find tops with an A-line shape are flattering but most running tops seem to have more straight up and down cut which doesn't look so good I think
I had a couple from moving comfort which were quite nice but I'm not sure if they're around anymore.

Iljkk I get quite sweaty when I run, so cotton is out as it gets too wet & either I then get cold if it's cold weather, or I just feel really uncomfortable in hot weather. I don't find much difference between the cheap and expensive tech tops though. I ran yesterday in my new UA top and it seemed good.

Ohfortuna - I used to have a nice Merrell A line top but it fell apart sadly - one of the best running tops I've had :(

I go for basic Dhb stuff from Wiggle or Karrimoor from Sports Direct usually! Cheap and cheerful!

I just wear t shirts in technical fabric from aldi or Lidl. Secret is to size up so it’s not clinging to your flab and is long enough.

For some reason they are cut to be skin tight and short enough to show off your toned abs. Because obviously every woman who runs is built like a 22 year old professional athlete and not a middle aged mum doing parkrun whose tummy never recovered from that last c section. Hmm Hmm.

What about this one from decathlon ?

With decathlon you need to size up massively. I wear a 12 top elsewhere ( 10 in M &S) and a large in decathlon .

I hate the way they are cut to be fitted. Most of the ones I wear are ones given free after a race. If I buy one, I buy it too big so it doesn't cling.

I bought a couple of these yesterday. www.matalan.co.uk/product/detail/s2679556_c504/souluxe-criss-cross-gym-vest-lilac. They are longer on me than on the model (I'm 5 6') and are great value for £7. The rest of the range is quite good as well.

Sorry no pic of it on the model! This is the same one, different colour - they are a bit swingy so more flattering than a tight fit style www.matalan.co.uk/product/detail/s2684837_c101/souluxe-racer-back-swing-vest-black

Tk maxx has good ones and even go to plus sizes which is great as I am size 18 and enjoy running!

After realizing i looked much better in dhs running tops, i tend to buy a lots of mens running stuff. Im quite slim, but the normal fit of women's running stuff makes me look lumpy and doesn't flatter. Too tight, horrible small necklines and finish (tightly) where my hips are widest. Im always surprised so many people buy ill fitting running tops. I also massively size up. Im a ten but id always buy a 16 or xl size.

Agree re buying men's stuff. I've got a wobbly stomach and love to run, most women's stuff is just too short for me

Thanks for all the suggestions - I am sure there is something that will fit in one of those shops. I will look at men's too - not sure how the fit would be on me as I have quite wide hips but will look anyway.

Some of that Matalan stuff is really nice.
