I brought a new bralette thing from Ebay.
Brand new Ebayer with no feedback at all, just selling 2 brand new boohoo items with a buy it now, one was my bralette.
It was meant to arrive on 29th March, nothing.
I asked today if she knew what had happened with it as I've been patient but its taking a while, I recieved the following reply:

Hi, I've sent this item via 1st class in a small envelope and so should've been with you within the 2 days after you paid for it. Can you check you don't have it again please? It was sent in a brown envelope and I took a video of me posting the brown envelope addressed to you clearly and so it definitely should be there. If you don't have it I can try get into contact with royal mail to see if they have the parcel or if I can be compensated for the lost item so I can refund you. Sorry about this, it was sent the day after you paid so should be there quite a while ago.

Can you send a bralette in a brown envelope in a post box? Surely most things go through the post office.
Also think the mentioning she videoed herself posting an envelope seems a little weird and a bit too much of an over compensation type response.
Trying not to be an arsehole because they're a new ebayer and I want to give them the chance. But it just seems odd to me.
I've opened a not recieved case and we're discussing things through there so Ebay can see it all, but does this seem weird to anyone else?
Can you even get insurance through royal mail for an envelope sent through a letter box?

No she's talking shit to try to put you off from opening an item not received case. Because even if she did video it (which she is talking crap and wouldn't have done) it would count for nothing with Ebay.
She needed a tracking number on the receipt. It would have had to of gone as large letter, which needs to be weighed and post office charge the relevant postage on that. If it was large letter it doesn't come with tracking, she would have needed to have sent it signed for to get tracking.
Tracking only comes with signed for stuff, or small parcels larger than a big letter.
If she can't provide proof of postage ie tracking then you win. And it sounds like she can't. All this compensation talk is rubbish aswell, many sellers say it to put buyers off from opening a case.
One of 2 things has happened, she has either posted it non tracked (which is the case) and it has genuinely got lost in the post or 2, she kept your money and never posted it at all. It's a tricky one with no feedback, and apparently a new seller. As it's either a fraudster who opens up new accounts or she is infact a genuine new seller who doesn't know how Ebay works or Ebay how money back guarantee works.
If you've opened up a case, and is she can't provide tracking then she gets the option to refund you. I think it's 8 days that she has, if she doesn't refund you Ebay step in and they automatically refund you from her account at her expense which would result in a defect on her account.
So, to put it in a nutshell you can't loose. Don't worry, you will most certainly get your money back, regardless of what she says, because without tracking she doesn't stand a chance. I am a seller and buyer on Ebay, have been since 2006 so I know how it works.
Hope this helps Smile

What is she saying in the messages? Because now that you have opened a case she should be heading towards refunding you. She gets a button that says refund the buyer, so if she hasn't done that yet then she is choosing not to.
If she is talking rubbish then just don't message her anymore, and wait for the case to close in your favour. Which 100% it will

Does she say In Her listing that she cannot be held responsible for items lost in the post?

Doesn't matter even if she did always cheerful, she has to refund the buyer if she has no proof of delivery ie tracking.

The item was cheap and it had free p&p and all it said was she was sending it 1st class royal mail.
I am quite surprised she went with an envelope and stamp, but I know if you are new to all this stuff then it might be a bit confusing.
I'll just wait and see what happens, I've opened a case and I'll escalate it if it comes to that.

Doesn't sound like a fraudster for such a small amount. They target much more expensive items.
I think she is a new seller and wasn't aware of the Ebay policies regarding tracking.

Most Ebay cases are automated, I know this from speaking to a Ebay person with a case I had. If someone opens a item not received case and there is no tracking info in the relevant box the buyer automatically wins when Ebay step in.
The only time a case is reviewed by Ebay staff and isn't automated is when someone appeals a case.

I often just print labels on eBay and pop in post box, I take my chances. I don't have time to go to the post office often so if it's a low value item, say maybe under £15 I just post it. If I can't fit it in or is too big I have to go to post office or send via Hermes etc.

So that but might be true but the video thing weird. If someone told me the item hadn't turned I wld have to refund and cut my losses. Just open up an item not received case and let eBay deal with it.

Just open a not received case with eBay. Her claiming for a lost parcel with Royal Mail is a totally different issue and nothing to do with you. And a video is worth nothing.

Finally for my refund today.
Seller cut l communication once I opened a case.
I've only accidentally left positive feedback because my phone bloody autofills the section 😫
Anything I can do to warn other buyers? The only feedback she has is now mine! And its bloody positive after having to wait ages for a refund through Ebay!
