My 6 month old has feather like hair

I was wondering if having his head shaved would contribute to his hair thickening???

This is a common practice n belief in india at least that the more u shave the head the better n thicker his hair would be.

Any experience???

I haven't tried shaving, but must say that feather like hair thickened up naturally imd.
Be grateful, feathers are easier to wash!

No experience, but I was tempted to shave Dd's head to thicken her hair. So glad I didn't as it is madly curly and thicker hair would've been a double nightmare.
Do you and Dc's dad have thin or thick hair? if thick or even normal, I wouldn't worry tbh, baby is only 6 months, it'll likely thicken up at some point anyway.

my DC have very thin hair until the age of about 3, when DS's thickened up. Baby Goo is 22 months and I can see the hair starting to come in at her nape of her neck and at the front where previously she had a kind of widow's peak (I am lolling at my description of such an attractive child :)).

I don't know if shaving would have helped. You can't get evidence for this unless someone has shaved one of twins or half a baby's head

I don't think I'd do it in October though, poor baby needs the hair to keep warm!

I also tend to think it will happen naturally but grandparents are like 'oh still not thick huh?' so that set me thinking....

Personally i dont like bald babies....feathers are good for me

DS rubbed all his feathery hair off by 6 months, when it first grew back it looked a bit thicker because it was all the same length but then it grew past an inch and became just as feathery as before. Now at 2yo it looks a bit like Boris hair. He's very blonde.

Some kids get thicker hair, some take their time about it, doesn't seem to make much difference when you cut it TBH.

Actually, I have just remembered that my Aunt had ringworm on her scalp as a baby (in the 40's) and my Grandad apparently shaved her head (because the health people wanted to do it and he wouldn't let them). Said Aunt has thick, beautiful hair even in her late 60's, whereas her 4 siblings had thin, nothingy hair, so there might be something in it.

I don't see how shaving will increase the thickness of the hair. It's not going to create any more hair follicles, so you wouldn't get any more actual hairs.
And as for increasing the thickness of each actual hair - well it grows from the follicle/root - which isn't affected by shaving. Think this is an old wives' tale.

I was describing DS2s hair to my hairdresser (22mo and still v feathery hair) and she told me it would thicken up the first time he got it cut. I've not done it yet so cannot confirm nor deny

I will need to find out what my hair were like as a baby.....

Neither me nor my husband have feathers for hair not all that thick either but my son's current situation is not very promising

I completely agree with the no logic behind shaving and hair thickening. But its so common in india that i really wanted some non indian views!!!!
