We've tried to keep out of the top 20, but failed with another DC's name, here goes.

Clare or Clare
Eliose
Sadie
Talia

DH likes Sally too but it's the name of a bunny boiler ex of my brothers

DD1 would have been Eloise Claire if dp hadn't vetoed it, so I like that!

Out of Clare or Clare, I prefer Clare.
Talia quite popular and not that nice imo.
Sadie is cutesy
Assume you mean Eloise. Quite pretty but again cutesy.

I like Clare. Classic. Pretty.

Clara is lovely too. Prefer it to Clare.

don't like the spelling Clare, but i like Clara.
Claire is better if you're going down that route, much more elegant.

Eloise is lovely.

Nickelbabe - you are completely wrong!

GhostWriter · 10/10/2009 17:37

Clare a much better spelling. That interloping, superfluous i is just tarnishing something that's already lovely.

I like Clara, Clare is nice but was very popular when I was a child in the '70s, so I associate with 40 year olds

Eloise (sp?) is pretty

Sadie is a bit of a hard-sounding name, IMO

Talia is nice

What about Elodie ? - it has a similar feel to your names, but more unusual

I like Eloise too. Its on my list

Hubby knows a stuck up Elodie so that's out,
Sadie is my first choice, Eloise is our compromise name as he wants Emma Louise.
I also like Paige (which nobody else does) and India but I'd have three children's names ending in an A then and quite fancy a Y for a change.

dd is CLara. it's beautiful and not at all common

Report
nappyaddict · 10/10/2009 18:23

I like Clare. It's definitely not very popular. The others however are increasingly so.

How about Clara?

Report
Tillyscoutsmum · 10/10/2009 18:26

Clara is lovely. Eloise is pretty too but might well become Ellie which is fairly popular

Sadie is too close to Sadist for my liking. Really dislike Paige

Report
nappyaddict · 10/10/2009 18:31

Ah see you meant Clara in your OP. Other similar names are Claribel, Claribella, Clarette, Claramae, Clarice, Clarinda, Clarissa.

Paige is another popular one. Fawn has a similar feel to it.

India is nice as is Indiana.

Eloise is popular but Heloise, Eloisia or Ilona aren't and have a similar feel.

I know you weren't keen on another name ending with A but how about Louisa, Luisa, Ophira, Ophelia or Aurora?

sweetkitty · 10/10/2009 18:40

Clara - nice
Eliose - like this too
Sadie - DD1's middle name so like it too
Talia - DD2's name so love love love it, always getting compliments on it, have yet to met another, in the year she was born there were only another 2 in Scotland so not that popular yet

El-i-ose weird. Eloise is a bit candy-coated but is saved from total Barbie-land by having been recorded by the Damned.

Clare/Clara both nice.

Sexy Sadie - ok.

Talia - dunno.

TMM- Clara is a fabulous name, not that I might be biased at all

OP, Obviously Clara is my fav but Eloise is lovely too. I think Sadie is too 'old lady' and Talia will date iykwim?

I work with early years and know lots of Talias. I would say it's becom ing common.

Sorry |TSC- usually manage to dodge a bullet with these threads but seem to have put my foot well and truly in it. If it's any consolation my RL name is utterly hideous and I wouldn't even call my granny it

Report
MillyMollyMoo · 10/10/2009 20:14

Sadie is a form of Sarah, which I like but I fancy the Y/IE ending for a change and Talia would be nicknamed Tally too.

Isn't Tahlia spelt with an 'h'?

Clara is lovely and also international so I'm told by my friend who wanted it to sound the same in all 4 languages she and hubbie speak.

Claire HAS to have an 'i' unless you are Irish!

Eloise is pretty but I like Eliana and Ella as the prettist of the El names.

Report
MillyMollyMoo · 10/10/2009 20:19

Hmm Claire is French and we're not French either, every Talia I have seen has been without an H, I guess which ever suits is fine.

Clara is lovely and much underused.....
Also like Sadie and Eloise (but agree Eloise is a bit little girly....)

Another suggestion along the Talia lines: Tassia or Tessa/Tess?

If you like the "ie" ending what about Melodie? Sophie? Amalie? Coralie?
