So this has been our top list for a couple of weeks now, but we are making no progress. Charles, Tobias, Merrick, Abraham, Hugo, +Felix, Anselm and Clancy are hanging in there. We are really struggling! Inputs? Last time I posted I dropped Clancy from the main list after comments but I can’t quite get rid of it Grin

I like Tobias, Hugo and Felix. Tobias would have to be Tobias and not Toby.

Merrick and Clancy and surnames. Anselm is awful.

Merrick is a horrid spiky sounding name imo
Abraham, I'm not a fan either. It's cumbersome
Anselm sounds like a medicated cream
Clancy isn't a good first name, it just doesn't sound right

Charles, Hugo and felix are lovely.

I like Felix, Hugo, Charles and Toby (not Tobias though). Not keen on the others, sorry.

If you like Clancy you might like Clarence? You could have it as a Nn then.

Charles, Tobias: Lovely!

Hugo, Felix: Very nice. But Felix might date...

Abraham: Not my cup of tea. I automatically think of the "sacrifice of Isaac"...

Merrick: A bit harsh but I think I might see the appeal.

Clancy: I don't like it but it's fine.

Anselm: It's not offensive but I really don't like it.

Oh god the sacrifice of isaac. That’s not inspiring Grin. Would be Abe in practice I expect. Tobias would definitely be a Toby at least once he hits school.
Clarence was on the list for last ds, I think dh said he would grow up to be a gay art dealer and crossed it off.
I think you are helping solidify my top 5... so that’s something! Ds1s name starts with f, otherwise Felix would be more popular.

Tobias or Felix

[laugh]

I'm related to a gay art dealer. ;)
She seems to have a rather "glamorous life" / is a very stylish woman that seems to truly enjoy her life.

Nothing wrong with being a gay art dealer. I know one. She is not called Clarence.

I worked with a guy called Clarence who looked and dressed like Andre 3000 from OutKast. I quite like the name.

I knew another gay art dealer (dead now) who was called Tobias.

I love the name Felix. Would have been on my list if close friends hadn't beaten us to it.

Hugo makes me think of a very fat posh man, sorry.

I like Felix or Tobias best OP.

But believe me whichever name you go with your boy will make it his own!

Congratulations GrinFlowers

Is it wrong that I find the idea of little Tobias / Felix / Charles becoming a gay art dealer rather amusing? ;)

Anyhow, it does somewhat depend on your surname and the name of your other DC, but Charles, Felix, Hugo and Tobias are really lovely and solid names (imo).

I only like Charles and Tobias

Charles or Abraham

Tobias would probably become Toby even if you don't want him to. Felix sounds like a cat's name and Hugo a fat kid's name.

Merrick, Anselm and Clancy are all awful.

Abraham doesn't actually sacrifice Issac in the end haha! But that's just a story. And I like the name Abraham

I love Tobias. I know/have known lots of people who's names never get shortened (like Christopher and Thomas) so it's not inevitable that he would become Toby atall!

Felix is nice also but I think of cat food and Hugo make some think of Hugo Boss... Darn advertising!!! Angry but they're great names!!

Charles is okay and I'm not into the others atall! Just not my style.

Meem

I know ;) But it's still creepy in my opinion. (I truly hated that story when I was a child.)

Not Merrick, reminds me and I'm sure others of the elephant man - imagine the teasing!

Hugo, felix and Tobias are nicest

I like Charles and Felix best. I've met little Charlies before but never a Charles. Felix is more popular but such a lovely name.

Hugo is incredibly popular in my circles (SE) so worth being aware if that bothers you. I'm afraid the name has bad associations for me as it makes me think of chinless wonder toffs (sorry! Blush)

There is nothing at all wrong with being a gay art dealer. I think I said something like that at the time, but Clarence was just about the strongest no dh gave.

Hector?
Solomon?

Tobias is great and would only be Toby if you wanted to.

I can’t imagine children starting school in 2023 will associate Merrick wIth the elephant man.

I think sounding posh is not very appealing, which is bad news for Baby Hugo I guess!

Is it me or is Anselm just really awkward to spell or pronounce? I can imagine a lifetime of explaining WITH AN L ...

Haff

Anselm reminds me of Hansel (as in Hansel and Gretel). I know that they aren't the same names but that's just what it reminds me of.

I like Tobias, Anselm, Abraham and Felix from your list. Which works best with your surname?

Clancy, Merrick and Anselm are indeed awful.
