I can't name this 5 week old little girl! Please help! Thoughts on Madeleine?

Hi, she is 5 weeks now and I'm seriously struggling... :(

We both like Madeleine (yay!) and also like Maddie, but we only like it with the NN Maddie, so is it a bad choice? She would be Maddie DTD, so introduced as Maddie (Maddie would be her "known as" name at school too, until old enough to decide obviously!) and we know she would most likely get Mads/Mad occasionally too and we can deal with that, but what do you think!?

It is a lovely name.....however,it's not one I would use as it's a name that makes me feel very sad ,due to obvious reasons x sorry...ofcourse it's your daughter your choice.

It's a biscuit. Sack it. How about Marianne?

Figgygal · 06/05/2017 19:29

I'd never use it due to forever being reminded of a certain someone

OP your about to run out of time to register it. You both like it, do it. Introduce her as Maddie and all the other nicknames will evolve

FreeNiki · 06/05/2017 19:36

It's ok. Over popular though.

I'm a Madeleine Grin can confirm that no one calls me anything other than Maddy, no other nicknames have ever happened.

FWIW I don't know a single other Madeleine. Any other Maddy/Maddies are Maddison.

Too sad. Straight away think mccann.

TheElephantofSurprise It's a cake!

I know more than one Madeleine, so to me it doesn't make me think Madeleine Mccann,

Maddie is lovely. I'm showing my age here, but it makes me think of Maddie Hayes from Moonlighting.

Go for it, it's lovely.
Not sure what other NN there are apart from Maddie.

Makes me think of Madeleine McCann straight away. However it is a really nice name and Maddie is cute.
Congratulations. X

Lovely name.

I've never got why MNers seem to think it's "out of bounds" because of Madeleine McCann. Obviously that's a very sad case but Madeleine/Maddie is a fairly popular and certainly very well-known name, not just connected to one person. I know several Madeleines and Maddies and have never really thought about any connection there.

Lovely! I really like it and know a toddler named Madeleine, so don't just associate it with Madeleine McCann.

Its a gorgeous pretty elegant uncommon names. You like all the potential nns. Which is a deal breaker

Lovely. I can highly recommend Maddy as a nickname Grin however it will almost inevitably become Mads (I am Mads to almost everyone now) but I don't think that's a bad nickname either Grin

Someone I know is expecting a girl and they have decided to call her Adeline, Addie for short. Could be another option as obviously they are very similar!
