Baby names

Honestly...we don't like ANYTHING (boys name)

Well, we've got 5 weeks to go and DH and I are still unable to agree on a dreaded boy's name. We had a shortlist for girl's in about twenty minutes...hnow can it be this hard?

There is very little overlap in the names we individually like. I like sensible, strong names (with the occasional odd one thrown in for good measure), DH likes the quirky ones and clearly imagines our child to be going down the path of rock and roll stardom. I, on the other hand, don't think a child will thank me for calling it Castro when he walks into a meeting at work 25 years from now.

My list:
Elliott
Gus
Toby
Ryan (but less so as our surname beings with an R and I'm not sure where people stand on alliteration!)
Evan

DH list
Hunter
Castro
Eli
Patrick (curve ball - but not a fan)

Help! Seriously, help us! Every time we try and discuss this we give up as we're so "stuck" on the names we already have in our heads.

The only criteria we agree on is that the name should be instantly pronouncable by sight.

Elliott and call him Eli. Grin

I had Elliott on my list for a potential DS and also had Miles, Murray and Nathan and some others I've forgotten.

I do find boys names really hard.

Don't worry! We had EXACTLY the same problem. The day before we finally settled on a name but we both felt sad knowing it wasn't and awesome name and it was just 'ok'. When he came out, we picked another name and it stuck - 3 months on its perfect and we can't imagine a more perfect boys name! You may surprise yourselves at the last minute.

Oh I LOVE Evan! DD was going to be Evan but we've got it saved for next time.

If you like Evan and he likes rock star ... How about Jude or Reuben?

Ds was called Pickles when I was pregnant and the name stuck. We were nearly running out of time before we both agreed on his names. Then when we went to register his birth the registrar told us we couldn't have one of his middle names. Cue dp holding his head in his hands and silently weeping whilst I had an argument with the registrar.

I second Elliot with nn Eli, as you've then both got your way.

Evan is a great name. Would changing it slightly to Ivan, Ivar (pronounced ee-var) or Ivo appeal to your DH more?

Other thoughts are;
Elijah
Ephraim
Ezra
Casper
Milo
Gabriel
Linus

Miles

Good solid name, not much used, if he complains it isn't cool enough quote Miles Davis at him and he will have to shut up.

Castro, as in the Cuban dictator? Just awful, lol. Like Casper though.

What about Felix or Seth? Love 'em!
