Hello, I'm knew to this so please bear with me! My husband and I already have a DS and a DD and are expecting again. It seems most people can't find a name they both love but our problem is the opposite - our list is waaay too long! Please help us to sort out the lovely names from the ones that only seem good in my jumbled pregnancy brain and shorten our list! :o

BOYS
Atticus
Augustus
Bay
Cuthbert
Fergus
Gabe
Gray
Inigo
Merrick
Otto
Percy

GIRLS
Ariana
Astra
Cleo
Elodie
Etta
Lucia
Matilda
Paloma
Rowan
Thea
Zeta

Honest opinions please, I can take it! :o

Fergus and Elodie for me

Report
StetsonsAreCool · 07/10/2011 21:03

I like Fergus and Percy from your boy list and Cleo and Elodie from your girls.

What are your first two called? And how long have you got to decide?

I think if you've got lots to choose from, just see what the baby looks like on the day. We had about 4 names for each possibility, and when DD was born one of our potential names was perfect for her. I'd rather be in your position with lots of choice for each than not being able to agree on any name and having loads of problems afterwards Smile

My goodness! A more trendy list I have not seen! :o
Gray or Rowan.

BOYS
Atticus - bit pretentious, but not awful
Augustus - = Gloop
Bay = Tree (or nice shiny conker-brown horse)
Cuthbert - has a runny nose
Fergus - like - possibly because I like 'Fergus Sings the Blues' Grin - and I know the loveliest guy ever called Fergal, which is similar!
Gabe - indifferent
Gray - colour/Gary spelled wrong - don't get it
Inigo - unsure how you pronounce this - is it like indigo but without the 'd'?? Confused - if so is a bit 'blocked nose' sounding
Merrick - met a guy on holiday with this name who was a very nice man, Brummie with huge moustache. So will always scream 'lovely Brummie man with big moustache' to me.
Otto - love love LOVE this name - gorgeous
Percy - =Sugden. Or Percy from the first series of Blackadder.

GIRLS
Ariana - lovely, but almost prefer Arianne
Astra - my car! Grin I love my car.
Cleo - ok
Elodie - pretty but don't love it
Etta - lovely
Lucia - lovely
Matilda - nice, but dislike nn 'Tilda' as is rice
Paloma - bit pretentious IMO
Rowan - know someone vile with this name so don't like
Thea - don't like
Zeta - nice

Oooh I have been very forthright, hope you're not offended. Have had 2 glasses of Cava so feeling very bold this evening.

I would choose Otto for a boy and Arianne/Ariana or Etta or Lucia for a girl.

Funnily enough I always think of Rowan as a boy's name. I prefer Rowena.

Report
smogwod · 07/10/2011 21:09

I agree with Stetsons, wait til he/she arrives. But from your list my definite favourites are Atticus and Astra, depends on your other children's names and your surname as to which 'goes' best tho

mybootsaremuddy · 07/10/2011 21:09

Like Atticus and Fergus from your boy list....... thinking i might quite like Gray as well.
From your girl list, Ariana is lovely also like Elodie, Rowan and Thea.

LittleWhiteWereWolf · 07/10/2011 21:10

Atticus of course! (why you even need other names is beyond me Grin)

I don't care for any of the girls names, though, so make sure you have a boy. Wink

I don't really like anything from your boys list, sorry. If Rowan was on it as a boys name, I'd go for that, but since it isn't I'll choose Gabe. I like Ariana, Lucia and Elodie from the girls name list.

Ooh, I like Rupert!

So you 'can't' have Cuthbert now - two -ert endings. I might say no Fergus, Atticus or Augustus for the same reason. I still like Percy.

Personally, I always think Cleo Laine and I think Cleo would 'go'. As would Elodie, Etta and Ariana, but then you'd have two Miss A Surnames in the house which might cause confusions when they get older.

I like your list. I might steal some of these if I have another baby Grin
