It is the most ridiculous test ever invented. I know a few people who have taken it and passed, but had no idea why they should know some of the stuff that was asked.

I will have ago at your linked test just for the fun of it, hang on.

The best so far ...

How many parliamentary constituencies are there?

Just done the test:

"You have failed the practice citizenship test.

Questions answered correctly: 14 out of 24 (58%)

Time taken: 03 minutes 49 seconds"

Native-born, too.

Odd mix of questions.

Followed closely by...

The number of children and young people up to the age of 19 in the UK is?

Report
naturalblonde · 05/08/2009 20:20

I got 11 out of 24. It really is the stupidest test ever.

It all seems rather pointless and you'd learn the info just to pass the test. I scored a paltry 8. (did not grow up in the UK, citizen by parent)

I took a guess at those ones, Jaquelinehyde, maybe I should have googled with the rest of my 45 minutes?

Oh dear God

Schools must be open

It then lists the number of days a year they should be open? WTF?!

Report
leftangle · 05/08/2009 20:24

WTF - I only got 14 right and I should think some of them were random guesses (I am british btw). Why on earth should potential emigrants have to know more than your average brit?

It was ridiculous and I took it a few years ago. Apparently, it's harder now.

Not to mention the cost of the test and visa, we just can't afford for DH (Canadian) to take the test so he'll have to make do with his ILR.

immigrants even

Report
OldLadyKnowsNothing · 05/08/2009 20:25

Jaquelinehyde, that one's easier - 5 days a week, 40 weeks a year.

50% native here

miserable failure: Questions answered correctly: 15 out of 24 (63%)

Time taken: 03 minutes 43 seconds

anyone look at the test summary to see which ones they got right?

Report
ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 05/08/2009 20:27

Oh don't. YANBU. DH has failed twice. He is now overstaying his visa But we don't have extra 465 quid to extend it til he passes and has to pay 820 quid to apply for ILR. Shitting selves personally.

Firawla · 05/08/2009 20:27

You have failed the practice citizenship test.

Questions answered correctly: 7 out of 24 (29%)

the test was rubbish

Report
ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 05/08/2009 20:28

Oh and no horror stories about overstaying visas please. I can't take it

shoshe · 05/08/2009 20:28

DDIl has just taken it (SA by birth) she could answer more than I could!

And you are right cost her more than £1000.00 for citizenship and passport.

PerArduaAdNauseum · 05/08/2009 20:28

Agree it's pretty random - I got 63% yesterday iirc - at least I beat DH . Shall we ask to be deported?

Report
Jaquelinehyde · 05/08/2009 20:33

It will be no great suprise to you to hear that I failed. 13/24.

DP (an immigrant) now says "I must leave the UK, I must not pass go, I must now collect £200"!

Leonie - you're lucky, you now have to do the test just to get indefinite leave to remain.

LeonieSoSleepy I'm right there with you on that one. Totally no point with my ILR.

Of course, to get an ILR these days, you have to take that test!!

Oh, and from what I understand, the US citizenship test is just as stupid.

Jaquelinehyde · 05/08/2009 20:38

Oldlady - I'm afraid to say Your wrong. Definately not 200. I actually got it right (at a guess) and a school apparently only needs to be open 161 days a year, or it could have been 181. It definately had a 1 at the end
