It's boiling hot.

I have red hair and pale skin and I really dislike the feeling of hot weather.

I have bad hayfever.

This weather pisses me off so much - if it's cold you can put another jumper on, or turn the heating up, but there is NO ESCAPE from the heat.

I feel woozy and heavy-legged. My eyes are either stinging from sun cream or itching with hayfever. I look shit in summer clothes and I can't wear heels. My ankles and feet are swollen and I'm not even pregnant.

And yet because I have a DD I have to get out and DO stuff which makes me feel worse, rather than being at home with the curtains closed, which is what I really want to do. And it's not fair to DD who is a real outdoor girl and loves it.

The thought of a long summer of this is making me feel very depressed.

I know I'm being a bit of a drama queen, and am probably being a bit unreasonable, but the fetishisation of the hot weather in this country pisses me off (and I needed a rant).

Well i am 31 weeks pregnant and suffering dreadfully with hay fever but i do still love the sunshine!

Does help though that we have an old house that stays very cool.

But anyway - sure the sunshine won't last for long.

Agree. Which is one of the reasons we are moving back to the UK from Spain.
Am however hoping never to be troubled by hayfever again since, after 20 years of exposure, it is olive trees I am allergic to...

I do sympathise even though I like sunny hot weather. It is harder for some people (the fair-skinned or the heavily PG among others) and there is something a bit irritating about the assumption that 'everyone' loves the sunshine... Hot sunny weather is an absolute bastard for night-shift workers, for one thing.

I'm sure loads of people will be along to tell you how unreasonable you are, but I'll agree and say I hate it when it gets past 20 degrees. Heat makes me irritable and sluggish, and I burn easily. And I'm just starting my third trimester of pregnancy. Ugh.

I do sun lotion and hat, people! I have had epic sunburn in the past so I'm completely paranoid about it now. Fans are rubbish, all they do is move the warm air around.

I am constantly amazed at how I managed to get any exams when I had industrial strength hayfever in my teens (doctor said I grew up in the worst place in the UK for it).

And I have NEVER moaned about cold winters either.

Spending every day on the beach would be good but not practical.

I am pg and 11 days overdue now. I am covered in hives/heatrash and unable to sleep right when I need to. I am completely unable to enjoy the weather, as is DD1, who is porcelain-skinned and a hayfever sufferer.

DH and DD2 however, would say you are being VU, as he is olive-skinned and spent all day guzzling beer in the garden and she (olive-skinned too) spent the day looking like a little brown berry, bouncing about on the trampoline, having a marvellous time.

I may have a different perspective when I'm not a gigantic pregnant hippo though

For all of you who are pg you have my deepest, most empathetic sympathies as I was also pg during a reasonable hot summer (2005). NCT classes were spent comparing swollenness of ankles, the GP signed me off work for a couple of days so I could actually take some piriton and get over the drowsiness factor.

I posted this on another thread the other day, but it still makes me snurk.

I prodded my incredibly hot and swollen ankle and foot with a knitting needle to show DH how swollen it was, he flinched and flung his hands to his face, as though it were about to explode. He's scared of my pregnancy ankles.

BTW, I love cold weather, I like snuggling and woolly clothes
