AIBU?

First world question! Would you do this if 8 months pregnant?

Posting on here for quick responses mainly.

I'm 8 months pregnant and it's my birthday. I am very lucky and DH has prepared a lovely picnic. Would I be okay to eat a slice or two of iberico ham?? Or is this an absolute no-no? The NHS says charcuterie but not sure if it means processed sausage type meat as opposed to slices of iberico?

Also, would anyone consider drinking a small glass of champagne in my position? I haven't drunk anything so far in my pregnancy. Seems so close to the final hurdle now so wondering if I might...! I know opinions differ so just interested to hear views.

I would do both. The expecting better book my Emily Oster says both is perfectly fine.

To be honest I wouldn’t bother, a few people tried to persuade me to have a glass of bubbly at around 8 months at a family event but I just didn’t see the point! I ended up going into labour a few days later and I probably would have blamed it on myself - even though it probably wouldn’t have made any difference!

Personally I'd have the ham but probably not the champagne, but I didn't drink at all in pregnancy. I don't think there's anything wrong with either. Happy birthday, enjoy! Cake

I definitely wouldn’t worry about the champagne - a glass won’t hurt, especially at 8 months. Not sure about the ham cos I don’t eat meat but I’m sure someone else will have advice!

I’m seven months pregnant and in your shoes I would do both.

One glass of champagne at 8 months when the baby is fully formed won’t do any damage - the amount of alcohol that would cross the placenta from one small glass would be tiny anyway.

As a pp said, it’s a one off, I would do both.

I wouldn't have the ham due to the risk of listeriosis to your unborn baby. It's rare but potentially very serious.

I would eat the ham and drink the champagne. Enjoy your birthday!

One glass is fine, a couple of drinks/a glass of wine a week even is fine. it's sustained and high levels of alcohol that causes harm.

Same for the ham, there's actually very little you shouldn't eat when pregnant and most of the things people think they can't have are ok.

My GP told me that the food recommendations come from the WHO who obviously take into consideration the whole world. However, the food hygiene standards in the UK are so high that its actually safe to eat anything, just avoid liver as it is too high in vitamin A.

I would absolutely do both.

I would. Am also 8½ month pregnant. Happy Birthday!

Personally I wouldn't have when I was pregnant, and my thought process at 8 months would be I've got this far without I can go a little longer. However I would never judge anybody else for if they did. So if you want to, enjoy. It's a one off and your birthday x

Also currently 8 months. I wouldn’t do either but 100% would not drink alcohol! Just not worth the risk

I wouldn't. Because anything that happens with baby when born... Even a bad reaction to a cold... You will blame yourself and think what if! There's no rationality to mum guilt.

I did both at the same point as you. You'll get a mix of opinions on here... It's up to you to weigh up the risk you feel comfortable with

I would do both of those things - enjoy!
It was my 30th when I was 7 months pregnant with DD and I had a tiny glass of champagne and it was so delicious and it felt such a treat!

I'd do both too but I am one of those terrible people who had a glass of wine/fizz every now and then when I was pregnant. Happy birthday!
