I’ve just been reading about Glucomannan - not tried it but was wondering. . . It’s a natural one though

psyllium husk - it's solid fibre. You can buy it loose or in capsules. Eat it with a source of fat and that should make you feel full.
The biggest appetite suppressant is cutting out carbs - they make you feel hungry. If you eat mostly fat and protein (moderate) you will find you feel hungry less and less often.

Following. Find it so hard to fight the "my insides are a void" feeling.

OP don’t cut calories, cut carbs and you will feel full for longer. I eat every 6-8hrs naturally, no hunger, no snacks in between. I found that a pint of water with a dash of apple cider vinegar makes the niggling feeling go away really well, also a mug of strong tea, black or green, or strong coffee. Full fat/cream in hot drinks is ok, but strictly no sugar. Taking sugar out of your diet will dramatically reduce appetite on its own. Please don’t starve yourself, eat the right kind of foods/drinks. And enjoy life!

Since I went low-carb, I haven’t experienced full-on, desperate hunger which used to be a feature of my life. I used to be ruled by food. This is so liberating and has improved my quality of life immensely. I will never go back to cakes and biscuits, they are not worth it! I really enjoy my new well-being and freedom (and the slim figure 🙂)

Glucomannon, drink lots of water to avoid constipation

Psyllium husk doesn't affect the pill, according to the NHS. I use it in
unsweetened almond or oat milk.

Glucomannon is the only thing with an EFSA claim, but all it does is swell up in your tummy, It doesn’t stop you eating a Mars bar after taking it and so unless you are going to use it to reduce portion size it’s not worth it.

GTF (Glucose Tolerance Factor) Chromium is good for reducing sugar cravings.

There’s chromium picolinate if you can’t find the GTF version.

I second the apple cider vinegar. Has to be the good stuff with "mother"

Good news on the psyllium husk.I used to take "trimmers" in the early noughties I'm sure they had amphetamines in,we all used to take at work and you didn't want as much as a crisp with those.Funnily enough they dont sell them now

You can still be prescribed proper appetite suppressants if you go to weight medics - either phentermine (works on brain appetite apparently) or saxenda (injectable, works on the stomach, costs an arm and a leg though)

Eating a protein packed breakfast often keeps me full for the whole day - either a can of tuna / a couple of eggs and cheese on toast.

I remember at work a girl got a hold of slimming pills from Brazil. Suddenly half the office was alarmingly thin but also sweaty with bulging veins and twitches. Not a good look

Dont touch phentermine. It's not good at all.

DH did 3-day low carbing a few times in build up to big endurance (cycling) events; he hated it. He was starving the whole time & felt very weak. Horrible.

Apple cider vinegar fucked over my teeth so am not a fan of that one.

Smoking is indeed notoriously effective as appetite suppressant.

Report
TescosFinest · 12/07/2019 00:34

Lljkk, did your DH eat as much of low carb foods, especially good protein and fat as he wanted though? This is the whole idea of low carb, the intake is not restricted. The only condition is lots of good fat and plenty of vegetables (non-starchy, green is best. Sweet tasting red and orange vegetables in moderation as higher in natural sugars)

I have found it is very hard to overeat doing low carb. Indeed, your appetite reduces to normal levels naturally overtime and you eat less without trying to.

In any case, it would take a least a few weeks for the body to get used to not burning carbs all the time as preferred fuel. Your DH never really got past the start of adaptive stage doing it for three days. From the research, the first measurable improvements in health markers on low carb come through after 2 weeks and improve further overtime.
