I honestly can't say I can get worked up about it. Doesn't seem like they're angling to work together to put women down. There's no reason someone couldnt do the same for WomensFest. No one is being oppressed or harmed here.

Hmmm - seems like quite a nice idea to me..

Fine by me! Do they allow anyone who calls themself a man to attend?

Oh I am so relieved that someone has FINALLY thought about the men! It's lovely they can have their own little event, a lovely space just for them in this world created by women, for women. Oh, wait....

Because we live in a patriarchal society which is absolutely set up around the needs and power of men. So why the fuck they need to get together to discuss it further is quite beyond me. Rather like “white privilegefest”.

What of it? Looks like a nice woolly event for men to connect with others. You wouldn’t mind at all if it was a women’s event would you?

ILoveMaxiBondi · 26/03/2019 16:12

I don’t see the problem with it? It sounds quite good tbh. I’m sure anyone who identified as a man would be welcomed too Wink

The only bit I would want clarification on before paying any money is this

“50% of all profits go to worthwhile and Men-relevant charities!”

I’d want to know which charities specifically.

Topseyt · 26/03/2019 16:13

I have no issues with this at all. Why would you consider it a piss take?

Sparklingbrook · 26/03/2019 16:14

Do they allow anyone who calls themself a man to attend? Seems so reading the blurb. 50% of profits to charity too.

Anyone is free to organise a Womanfest should they feel the need aren't they?

They allow anyone who resonates with being male to attend, incl transmen and non-binary.
It's an alcohol and drug free festival.
A festival without beer just doesn't seem, well, festive!

But it doesn't affect you or us, or feminism, or womens rights. You're as excluded as you are by the men's loo's and the men's football team. If this couldn't or didn't happen for women you'd have a point but there is lots of this stuff set up for women.

Let them hang out and drink beer and get in touch with their inner princess!

Report
BirthdayCakes · 26/03/2019 16:14

There are heaps of these kinds of things for women..
(I know because I find the idea very very tempting!)

Report
Sparklingbrook · 26/03/2019 16:14

I’d want to know which charities specifically.

They have a poll to nominate which ones.

Report
CalmDownPacino · 26/03/2019 16:15

Presumably this is a fully inclusive event? Can ALL men attend? Even those that are female?

Sounds like a great event. Holistic therapies, good food, good company.

(And yes, it's open to all that identify as male.)

Men are seldom encouraged to participate in stuff like this...a bit of drumming, yoga, music, cookery, crafts etc...what’s wrong with that?
