AIBU?

To not pick Mum up?

Mum just rang us to see if OH can pick her up from a funeral reception apparently no one can give her a lift.

I've just had a c-section so can't drive and I have ds and dd I don't want to be left alone with them because I'm still in pain.

He can't be bothered and wants to relax plus he just took her to a job interview Wednesday and picked her up.

We're not mean are we?

Can't she get a taxi?

No, not mean. She can get a bus or taxi.

Does she do anything for you?

That's what we've just said not sure why she went up there if she couldn't get back? we always give her lifts so she just expects them.

I suggest you make it known she needs to be a bit more self sufficient now you have 3 dc including a newborn!!

Depends. Funerals can be draining, if it doesn't cost your husband much time or money it's not a big demand from a Mum. Sounds like she's unemployed so probably short on cash. (I'm assuming there's a backstory though?)

How old is she?

How on earth does it sound like she’s unemployed?

I was with you until you said he can't be bothered. You lost me then

Probably about 13 mile round trip it's on the other side of town and then you have to pass our house again and on the motorway for a few miles then back home again.

She's 63

Wow! She should not be expecting lifts from you when you’ve just had a csection and you and your husband now have 3 kids to look after!! That really is selfish! Say no and relax 👍

I suppose it depends what your relationship is like, like someone said, does she do a lot for you?

She can afford a taxi that's the thing.
I told her to ask around first I've not had a call back yet so hopefully she got one.

I would say how long would it take him 10-20 minutes - then we'd offer a lift. 30 -45 minutes- how much does she help you out? Over an hour I wouldn't without pre-arranging . It's not nice if she just expects lifts all the time. Perhaps have a word with her at a more appropriate time.

Is it too late to tell her he's had a drink?

Usually I'd say if you can't be bothered then just don't do it but as she's been to a funeral and may be upset I'd say it would be compassionate to do it for her

She's only 63? Unless she has serious health issues she needs to be a bit more independent! I was assuming from your post she must be much older than that and frail. Give her the number of a good taxi firm or if she has a smartphone and they operate in your area reach her to use uber!
