To ask about using coconut oil in hair

Has anyone tried this? Bought a tub tonight but don’t know if my hair is going to look mega greasy if I use it in my hair Anyone tried this?
What else would you recommend coconut oil working well for?

It's too heavy for my dry hair, just makes it look greasy, but as a moisturiser it's amazing for face and body. Slap loads on your feet at night, put a pair of socks on and in the morning they're baby skin smooth!

I love the stuff, I think how well it works depends on how porous your hair is - like countrypinkrose says don't use too much, ideally leave it on overnight and wash out in the morning.

Some people really like it in cooking.

I use mine melted & mixed into coconut shampoo. Apply to wet hair, massage,leave on,then rinse & shampoo. Deffo no residual greasiness & I have very greasy hair!

I haven't used coconut oil, but I have used almond oil. My hair is fine and oily and it's a great pre-conditioner, and a tiny drop rubbed through the ends (mine's long) makes it look lovely, though it does make it oilier quicker. I would try it on a day that you don't need to look great first in case it goes wrong, and don't use much on the first go. It is also nice on my scalp, I can get a bit dandruffy and adding oil occasionally seems to help.

You shampoo it out so as long as you lather and rinse properly there's no issue.
Can use it as a moisturiser too.

I bought a big jar, and used it in various places all over my face and body (fnarr).

I wasn't that impressed though. It's OK if you're doing some sort of bathroom minimalism project, but it's nowhere near as good as buying "proper" targeted conditioner/foot cream/face moisturiser yadda yadda.

Circle, I wondered about this too! I mean, if you wash it out of your hair it's going to make a fatberg, just like we don't tip oil or fat down the sink?

How far down the pipes do you imagine the water stays hot?

Think of all the hair in your pipes! Then claggy substance collects and forms a wad of crap that is very stubborn to budge even with hot water and detergent.

I haven't used it (also heard it blocks up the pipes). I have used almond oil as pp stated. You can also use it as a carrier oil to add essential oils to. Which smells lovely if you give yourself an Indian head massage.

Was using a coconut oil for some time as a conditioner. It was great, but I quickly tired to dilute during a wash. So I decided to buy a coconut-based conditioner. This article says OGX and EO Essentials ones are nice, but I'm afraid both will dry my hair. Looking for alternatives, any bits of advice?
