AIBU?

Haha! I have finally conquered my Ikea duvet cover! (Lighthearted and niche Ikea moan)

I have an Ikea duvet cover that I really like, it's a simple white, slightly textured 100% cotton duvet cover (king size) that would look very nice in my newly redone bedroom (I mixed more expensive and less expensive items, furniture, lighting, decor, bed linens etc...) Except... that I bought an Ikea king size duvet insert to go in it and promptly discovered that the insert isn't even close to fitting the duvet cover properly. My bed has looked sloppy, flat and sad honestly until I scored an oversized king comforter insert today (NOT from Ikea). I finally have the gloriously full, fluffy duvet on my bed that I have been trying for.

I'm sure I'm the last person to realise that buying a bigger insert is the way to go and I'm prepared to feel foolish but yet I still wonder, why Ikea? Why? Why are your duvet covers so much bigger than your duvet inserts?

I have the opposite problem, my IKEA duvet is constantly trying to escape my IKEA duvet cover! And the new duvet cover I have with a zip at the end, the duvet inside bunched up as it's very slightly too big. All from IKEA.

I think Ikea duvets go inside the cover sideways, so the stripes go across rather than up and down.

I've been thinking about sewing loops and ties to keep it all in place because I also suffer from escaping duvet syndrome. Maybe blue ties at the head and pink ties at the bottom.

DailyMaileatmyshit - That's interesting that your Ikea duvet is actually too big for the Ikea cover! I literally had about 4 inches either side on my Ikea cover that were just empty flapping sheet space and I bought an Ikea king size cover and king size duvet.

Perhaps you could do what I did, stretch out your duvet cover and measure length and width and then look for a duvet somewhere other than Ikea to better fit the measurements. In my case the Ikea duvet cover was accurate to it's listed measurements, it was the duvet insert that came nowhere close to it's listed measurements.

Are you sure you didn't pick up a double insert by mistake?

Doubles are 200 x 200cm, kings are 220 x 240cm

Shadow666 - I tried the duvet both ways! It wasn't until I measured it and then the cover that I knew conclusively there was a legitimate discrepancy between the cover and duvet size. I would think it was a manufacturing error but when casually mentioning it at work, a lot of people chimed in about this issue so I'm beginning to think this is a thing! Obviously not the burning issue of the day... but a thing! Maybe.

BTW - I'm with you about having ties on duvets/covers.

"Are you sure you didn't pick up a double insert by mistake?"

That was my first thought but I checked the packaging and then my next thought was manufacturing error but work colleagues have been regaling me with similar experiences so I don't know what to make of Ikea's sizing?

Ok, fair enough. I actually only buy singles as they are easier to manage. I have 4 single duvets on my bed atm. Glad your new duvet fits better.

Don't IKEA do UK bed sizes and European ones? So two different kings? I wonder if that's what's happened - although I did think they'd stoped labelling the European sizes as King etc.

We had an IKEA duvet and cover and it fitted fine but was annoyingly slippy material that caused it to get out of alignment. Was very annoying!

Was just coming on to say what peach green said. You need to make sure you keep to the same king size at ikea. Sounds like you have a UK cover but an EU duvet.

With mine, which are both definitely 240x220 I think it's that IKEA didn't take in to account the depth of their winter tog duvet, they are super puffy!
