AIBU?

To opt-out of organ donation

I am currently on the organ donor list however if the government make it opt out instead of opt in I will choose to opt out. I have a few reasons firstly though I’m on the register I actually have no clue what is involved, What can be taken, how much is taken, what happens to my body and a whole load more questions. Secondly if opt out what will happen can they just take everything I mean it’s possible to transplant a head these days so why not just store whole bodies just in case? Thirdly would the government make it simple to opt-out? Finally if you start opt out technically the government owns your body post death at what point do they decide they can take your organs while you’re still alive? I’m not against organ donation as I said I’m on the register but perhaps a better approach would be more available information, I wouldn’t even know how to re-register these days!

Even though you are currently on the register, you would opt-out if it became opt-in by default?

You would father he burnt intact of have more of your body feed the worms the save several lives?

It should be assumed that if you aren't on the register, you can't receive an organ should you need one.

I don’t mind a limited amount but what about your loved ones? Burial, cremation some f

Would you take an organ? Or want one for your OH or children if applicable?

I don't think you know anything about what actually happens from your posts, go and find out.

I basically just look at it as, am I bothered what happens to my body when I'm gone? Nope I don't because I'm gone. Why would I care? As long as my family have something to cremate, they can take anything they like from me. Have been on the donor register for as long as I can remember.

I'd be prepared to accept an organ if I needed one so it seems only reasonable that I'm prepared to offer mine when I no longer need them.

i think that if you are ever likely to consider needing an organ, then it is reprehensible to not be on the donor list

Surely the sensible thing if it became opt pit would be to educate yourself. Not just say nah I decided people should die from want of a kidney - burn mine!! Burn them all.

And what exactly are you planning to do when you're dead that you'll need all these organs?

Report
MsHomeSlice · 12/12/2017 21:20

what is the point of that...??

what crazy nonsense is there to explain why you are willing to donate now, but if the system changes then "No!" you won't donate

you could google for answers instead of being petty and ridiculously reactionary.

I’m happy to take one should I need it, therefore I’m happy to offer one should the situation arise

I plan to opt-out if it goes ahead.

By all means opt out. This will of course mean also opting out of receiving a transplant.

Have you looked for answers to any of these questions? I’m assuming you have the internet.

Also, the government can come for my organs while I’m still alive if they want. I’ll fight Jeremy Hunt bare-handed if I have to.

The thought of anyone being given the opportunity to live after I have died is amazing. My friend’s small daughter is alive now because she had a transplant. I can’t imagine what she and her family have gone through, and the joy they take in her now is something you’d want for anyone.

Yanbu not to want to donate your body. It's your body, you do what you want.

It might help you to research in to what happens when you donate your body as then you will be able to make an informed choice.

Username12345 are you currently on the list? Will you refuse one if you need one of if your children do?

I am even on the stem cell / bone marrow register and I can honestly say if they called now and said someone needs your donation, my answer would be yes what do I need to do.

You are being unreasonable I don't understand anyone's reasoning for letting their whole body rot/burn rather than save a sick persons life??

If you would take an organ if you needed one or let your child/mother/niece take an organ if they were in desperate need too you are even more unreasonable....

Head transplants aren't really possible. Some doctor somewhere claims they are, but it's bullshit.

I subscribe firmly to the "if you'd take, give" school of thought.

What about loved ones a funeral is an important part of greaving. Once it’s opt out where are the limits? How would your family feel if your face was transplanted and they started seeing you everyday in the street? What happens when they decide they don’t have enough suitable dead donors will you be forced to give up a kidney while alive? Or if they have too many organs what happens then will there be regulation on how organs are disposed of?
