Background - been on four dates. He's really fantastic. Really fab actually. Blush He cooked for me on Saturday - lemony chicken and a kind of fragrant sticky rice. He did chocolate creme brûlée for after, which was lovely. Simple but super tasty.

My "speciality" is lasagne. It's not very "attractive" though... Confused

Can I ask what you first cooked for your significant other and how it went? Any tips? I know we both hate mushrooms...

Lighthearted - so comments about impressing men with cooking and being the "little woman" are unnecessary for this thread. No bun fights unless they are olive focaccia... Wink- this is something I want to do and want to do well Grin

Thanks in advance

Fairly traditional Sunday lunch type thing. IIRC it was roast chicken and vegetables and then a chocolate cake filled with raspberries and cream.

I remember he was a bit startled when I handed him the knife and asked if he would carve but he coped very well.

why is it unreasonable to ask? Honestly, people use AIBU for any old thing.
AIBU to ask why you don't post in food?

Apart from potato skins & chicken satay sticks from Tesco when we started going out the first proper thing I cooked him was a beef roast dinner.

Steak and roasted veg/back potatoes

Other other easy things you could do-

Cajun salmon (so so easy)
Chicken skewers (teriyaki sauce)

Black bean and sweet potato chili plus guacamole and salsa, tortilla chips and green rice.
It's delicious but perhaps not one to try if a sleepover could be on the cards!

Not to be recommended but the first meal I cooked DH was cheese scones with leek and potato soup ............... he politely ate both but many months later he told there were only two food things he really didn't like - yes, you've guessed it Grin.

We've been married 30 years and still have a laugh whenever we see those two items on a menu !

A chicken curry.

If I were you I'd go for something like Indian or Mexican.

I'm sure whatever you make will be great Flowers

I recall a boyfriend once telling me that the moment he fell in love with me was one morning after a very boozy night out when he woke to find I'd made him a fish-finger sandwich with bacon.

Can't remember. But I do remember the first meal he cooked for me, the night I told him I was pregnant - shepherds pie. It's his specialty.

Salmon baked with chilli and satay noodles with peppers, baby corn and bean sprouts.

I’m an awful cook but it was surprisingly good.

Choc trifle for pudding (shop bought)
