Black, but has a sort of stripy looking head and grey tinge? Both parents are black (not deliberately bred, just happen to know who Daddy Cat is!).

Our girl is playful, think she may have been spayed while pregnant in the shelter, and very maternal with her toy kitten, so hoping she'll adapt well.

I don't mean to piss on your chips OP but you sound a bit naive. Cats are solitary animals and your other cat is not going to "purr or be super excited" when you bring another feline into their territory, quite the opposite in fact. Please make sure they both have their own space, especially the older cat and be prepared for the possibility that it may not work out.

I would LOVE another cat with all my heart but don't want to risk upsetting the one I have already.

Oh what a beauty! How exciting. We have three wee HellKitties and they are amazing. The older one doesn't like the younger two so we keep them separate. She's a solitary soul. The younger two have gotten on great since the day we brought Big Boy home. They play fight a bit but can usually be found cuddled up together . I'd happily add a fourth to the mix (our local shelter have dozens of kits needing homes) but DP is adamant that three is enough. He's probably right. But I just love looking after cats. Ours are all gorgeous, cuddly, lovely little beasts. Hope that your new arrival settles in well. And please do keep the pics coming!

Older cat is a recent rescue who enjoyed company in the shelter. She's also a shadow cat who likes to be with us, more so than most cats I've had.

It mightn't work out, of course, but I have had very sociable kitties in the past, who were very excited by new arrivals.

Certainly little Cookie comes first. She has plenty of space. Hoping for the best, but open to problem solving too!

Ahh! If he appears to have stripes, these are called Ghost Stripes. Apparently it's when the tabby gene is very dominant in black cats, although they will usually disappear within a few months.

That's true Dixie! She does, however, go looking behind the tv whenever the Felix ad comes on. Might be anthropomorphising her, but she's so full of personality.

She's still so kittenish herself I think she'll tolerate playfulness, and the house is full of high places especially for her.

My vet friend has given me great advice, and I'll always find the time to play fetch with her. Hopeful, perhaps naively, I remain!
