To remind sport shops girls play sports too?

Dd has just started a sport.

Looking for boots this weekend and there were Junior boots which only went up to a fairly small size and then men's ones.

With HUGE signs over the top saying mens.
No women's section no girls section which wasn't an issue but why not just a sign saying adults or senior.

Now I'm not particularly fussed as we bought boots from the men's section but surely some girls would be.

And seeing the drop out rates for girls in sport and the this girl can campaign and the fact we have a damn good women's football team i found it really irritating

By bugbear is sports bras.

I run, and so many supposed 'everything the runner needs' shops DONT stock sports bras. Or only stock one or two, and dont have any staff who can advise on fitting.

Really pisses me off. I can (in theory) run without shoes, but I can't run without a bra. So how the hell are they catering for all runners. 'Everything Men runners need, because women don't really count'

Getting larger sized sports bras is a nightmare. Had to go to bravissimo for mine even as a size 10.

Mountain Warehouse do good sports bra's up to a size 18 which suit me as a 38C. Not sure how they would be for larger cup sizes.

I get all my sports bras from m&s. Sports shops are useless for larger cup sizes!

@specialsubject - doesn't work for bras though. Or shoes really if you have narrow 'feminine' feet. Or even t-shirts if you have breasts and so on.

It annoys me too. Big JD Sports near me (boasting about being King of Trainers should have been a giveaway) has a huge selection of mens' trainers, an OK sized kids department (I haven't looked too closely at selection though) and a tiny womens' area with mostly fashion trainers like Converse or Stan Smiths.

Sweaty Betty are fine as long as you are TINY! I last fitted into their clothes when I was a size 12 - and I think that was counted as a large : (

@Evening Shadows - They do go up to a size 18 though in some lines. I used to wear their stuff when I was a really fat bottomed 16 & it was great.

God it's sooo frickin annoying isn't it? I'm baffled as to what it is that sportswear manufacturers (in particular) fear might happen if a woman is exposed to a primary colour!

What difference were you expecting to see OP?

Many women wear junior boots (teenage boys?) playing rugby like I do.

I understand why shops like sports direct don't stock the wide variety of sports bras they'd need to to make it worth their while.

As someone else said, it's supply and demand. If I were a billionaire owner of a sports-wear shop, I wouldn't stock equal ranges of equapment for the sexes. Why would I when female participation in certain sports is way below others. The most basic supply and demand. Sports shops aren't on a feminist crusade.

I'm a good size 16 and love Sweaty Betty. Their gear is very expensive but excellent. Feel very confident running on their leggings which manage to make me look good and not like a black stuffed sausage and keep all wobble under control. I'd be just as annoyed about having to buy from the men's section too. It implies women don't do sports.

Not an option for many as mens shoes are not made in small enough sizes.

I've just had to resort to walking boots that are half lilac as they were by far the best fit. I actually have nothing against lilac or other pastels, they're just totally impractical colours for outdoor footwear/clothing that's likely to get muddy.

I really struggle getting things for dd2/3. Dd3 too small to play according to most sports shops

Mens boots generally have a different width, tiptoe to ball length and gait. So 'adults' wouldn't be appropriate either. Sports footwear is normally gender specific for a reason, because for 9/10 people it's accurate.

But I would query where the female section was tbh... not having one is not on.

Yanbu. I asked the shop to fetch a black and white pair of studs for dd and the sales person tried to push pink ones even though dd had walked to the shop in black and white shoes.

I think that the section we went to was labelled football was junior and adult as the subsections.

There was no women's section or girls section in sports boots at all in one (What used to be JJB Sports/DW Sports) That was the Junior or Men's section store.

As it was we had to get dd a pair slightly too big as the last size in kids was too small and first size adult men's were too big. The kids were quite narrow and the men's were wider.

Maybe part of the reason girls don't do sport is because they can't find clothing they feel comfortable in to participate...

Dds old school changed pe kit to running type clothes. Tight fitting lycra type top and leggings. I imagine that was horrible for the girls who were body conscious or a bit larger.
