AIBU?

To take baths with my daughter?

DD is 2.5. She has a bath most nights. Recently I've been jumping in with her, really just to get my hair washed - gets that particular chore out of the way, in all honesty. But she loves it when I bath with her. We play with her toys then I wash her hair, wash mine, shower us both off, and out we get.

DH has no issues, although says he wouldn't feel comfortable doing it himself.

However, my SIL and one of my friends gave me this look: Hmm when I mentioned it in conversation.

Is it wrong??? I mean it's not like she'll remember it and I'm not planning on doing it for much longer. Its just convenient, saves a bit of time, and to be honest it's nice at the end of a long day to have a laugh with her and play with her toys.

It's a lovely thing to do! Ignore your friends, I often did this with my DD when she was this age, it was a relaxing time for me at the end of a day at work and a good time to bond with her.

Dd's are 8 and 10 and love to come in with me. What on earth could be wrong with it??

Why wybu? If you both enjoy it and you can kill 2 birds with 1 stone, what's the problem?

You're friends are being weird. Take no notice.

At that age it's fine

I'd be happy to until the age of 4 I think.

Reminds me of when my beagle was a puppy, she would whine when I was in the bath so I just picked her up and she bathed with me, she loved it.

But yeah no matter what you do you will get judged. Breastfeed? Oh no I don't do that. Bottle feed? Oh but it's so much better to breast feed? Don't feed organic? Feed pureed baby food? Bah. You do whats best for you and dc.

DD is nearly 4 and still bathes with one of us most nights! I'm sure she'll grow out of it soon enough but I find it quite cute.

Thank you!

I totally thought it was fine. I was just worried I was wrong and actually it is wholly inappropriate!

It's not the sort of thing that would usually come up in conversation really is it? But from now on don't share with them.

It is so lovely to bath with your DC when they're little. Enjoy.

Ds still occasionally leaps in with me. He's 9yo. I never offer it but if he's a little not so well and he hears the bath running he appears hopefully stripping off.
He used to want to frequently, it's very occasionally now.

My daughter occasionally jumps in with me. I don't understand what the problem is all.

Ds is almost ten and I wouldn't share with him as I worry he'd be uncomfortable. Dd is seven and I woukd but she's too big and has a verruca

I bath with my two ds's (3 and 5) sometimes. It's not very relaxing for me but when they realise I'm in the bath they both sneak in. I think it's healthy. :-)

DD normally does her school reading book while I'm in the bath, she's 6 in the summer, when she's finished, she jumps in, I can't think of any reason, other than not fitting for it to be odd!

Ds is 4 and he's always coming in disturbing my 'relaxing' baths. We play with his bath toys and talk about his day. It's one on one with no other distractions. He loves it. I don't see a problem with it, your Dd is still so young.

Our bath and shower are separate - ds goes in the bath whilst I have a shower then I jump in his bath for a play. He's 5.

I thought from the title your dd was going to be at least in her twenties Grin

Enjoy it while you can, she is only little once. I feel sorry for people who think it's odd, they are the ones missing out on playing in the bath and probably a bit repressed

Report
BrutusMcDogface · 01/04/2017 21:59

Not odd in the slightest! I don't Bath with my kids (because I don't like baths!) but they and I are more than happy to shower together. The oldest is 7.

Its quite sad that this has become socially 'weird'! Absolutely nothing wrong with it its a lovely (and convenient) thing to do x

It's not odd at all! I also wouldn't think it odd if your husband bathed with her either though. I shared with my siblings all the time when we were younger, and I always used to sit in the bathroom when my mum was in the bath to chat about my day.
