AIBU to mention this to my GP or will I look like a loon?

I have an appointment with my GP later on this morning for some other ongoing health issues. While I'm there would IBU to ask about another issue?

My period started 8 days after my last period ended. I am experiencing extremely heavy flow so much so I am completely flooding thick, heavy flow pads every 20-30 minutes. I have never had a flow this heavy, I have really bad lower back pain but not too bad on the stomach/cramping side of things. I feel okayish, if a bit tired. In general my periods are pretty consistent 25-28 day cycle, lasting 4-7 days and medium to light flow.

Would I look like a loon to mention this to my GP at my appointment today, I don't want tmy GP to think I'm nuts complaining about a period!

Yes if you have been flooding a pad like that for more than a day and it's mid cycle, you need to talk to a doctor. The difficulty is that in a 10minute appointment, that is a significant problem that needs assessing so there may not be time to talk about your other health needs.

You definitely wouldn't look like a loon, it's the kind of issue that is probably nothing but definitely worth mentioning. If I was in that situation I would probably make an appointment with my GP even without any other health issues.

I would definitely mention it .

Our GP only allows one ailment per appt . I tell them at the beginning of the consultation that I have 2 problems but will talk really quickly so we can for them in

You have to change pads every 20-30 mins? No brainer, that's much much too frequent, definitely ask GP. Oh and just seen you didn't even get a proper break between periods. Absolutely ask - just say upfront you have two things to discuss. Hope you get some answers.

I will get there a bit earlier and speak to the receptionist to see if she will be able to let my GP know that I have 2 issues to speak about. The first one the doctor is well aware of so at least I wont have to go through the in's and out's of it all so that will hopefully save some time.

It's probably nothing and one of those things, but it has never happened to me before. I'm going to have to double/triple up the pads for the walk to the surgery so that should be fun

No, not a loon. To be flooding that much, esp so soon after a period, doesnt sound good. Esp after what your periods are usually like. Do mention it.

In 2016 a normal period should be a minor inconvenience. This is not normal at all and needs treating asap.

For sure the fliidingneeds mentioning. And I would go so far to say that if only one ailment can be discussed, the other one may need to take a back seat and be rearranged while the bleeding is resolved in this visit.

Yeah, it may be that they have a one appointment = one issue policy, we do. In that case, unless you are lucky enough to be given another appointment today too, I'd talk about the flooding first and leave the other issues for your next appt.

I think I'll start with the bleeding then and if there is time will move on to the other ongoing issue. Hopefully I'll be able to get a longer appointment when I'm there if not I'll re book.

It was rather annoying last night, I had to change the bed sheets and then bled through a doubled up towel and a sheet on top of that, luckily I had kept one of the brolly sheets from when the DD's were night time toilet training and that saved the clean bedding/sheets!

It doesn't seem right at all.

8 days after your last period is not a period, really.

Tell him exactly how much you're bleeding.

My guess is you may well end up in hospital for checks.

I had to go about an unusually heavy period last month - doc didn't laugh me out the door!

Got some tablets to stop the bleeding and told to come back if it happens again for more investigation.

I had a bit of breakthrough bleeding, nothing heavy or major and some pains. My dr sent me for full bloods and a scan so no, you're not going to look like a loon

Thats v heavy and def odd given that you are usually quite regular and your last period only finished 8 days ago. Definitely definitely tell your GP. I am sure its nothing serious but he/she will want to know.

This seems to be a common issue. I've had similar and a scan and nothing found yet for others it can be serious. Hope it goes well.

Honestly I would call 111 if you are still bleeding that much today. This could be urgent.

Was your last period normal or spotting/lighter?

Could you be having a miscarriage?

Phew, just got back.

I ended up seeing a locum Dr as my normal GP is off today. I was a bit worried as I thought I'd have to go over my ongoing issues again but he was lovely. Let me speak to him about all my issues today.

He thinks the bleeding is due to stress, I am under a lot of stress and the last week or so has been very hard. He checked my BP, twice, first time it was lowish and second time is was slightly higher than it should be. I am confused a bit by that as my BP is and has always been 'boringly normal' even throughout two pregnancies and one miscarriage. I'm going to get DH to check it before he goes to work tonight
The GP did ask if I could be pregnant but DH had a vasectomy 5 years ago, so although possible it is unlikely. He wanted to give me some medication to stop the bleeding but as I have had a pulmonary embolism previously he decided not to. I have to ring on Friday for an emergency appointment if the bleeding is still as heavy.

Also seems I have yet another sinus infection....yay for me, so have anti-biotics and a steroid nasal spray to help with that.

If I'm honest I'm feeling a bit crappy, tired and a bit dizzy but that could be from the sinus infection. I'm going to let DH do the school run while I snuggle on the sofa in my PJ's and eat the chocolate MIL dropped off while I was at the doctors. Gotta love my MIL

Possibly feeling tired and dizzy due to lack of iron because of all that blood loss. Putting it down to stress seems a bit vague as well and a bit of a cop out. I'm another for not waiting until Friday, would call 111 or go to local hospital walk in tomorrow if it continues.

Stress ? . I would have hoped he'd send you for an ultra sound scan to check your endometrium , ovaries and for fibroids .

I'll definitely keep an eye on things. We don't have a local walk in centre just A&E or OOH later on tonight, however DH is on a night shift tonight so it's just me and the DD's in tonight. If I'm no better tomorrow I will get myself back to the GP.

I'd call 111 though as there have been 2 recent threads about heavy flooding and in both cases they ended up in A&E and one was very serious. Not wanting to frighten you or anything but is there someone else who could look after your children so you could go to A&E now? If not can DH stay at home tonight so you can go. It would be an unusual employer who wouldn't consider it acceptable for an employee to stay at home with kids when their wife was in A&E.

Tired, dizzy, and flooding pads like that... that sounds serious to me. There was a thread recently where the women nearly died after flooding pads like that.

If MIL lovely and nearby can she come over and help with the kids? Do phone 111. It sounds serious.
