Fortune Teller's Reading - Kids

Mom2Monkeys · 22/10/2016 13:25

Didn't know where to put this post.
I often worry about a prediction a fortune teller told me.

Went to see the same one twice, but the first time was in a big audience and he really didn't recognise me the second time, which was at his shop.
He's done quite well out of fortune telling - well-known and has sold books.

I have Romany Gypsies in my distant past (a great grandparent's upbringing), so I've always been curious. I bought Tarrot cards to see if I could learn them, but after this incident it's put me off. I was never sure I really believed in what they had to say, but I had an open mind.

First time I saw him he said things that no-one would have known. He also said I'd have a son who would be musical - I am very musical also.
Anyway, as it turns out, I did have a son, but I had a daughter first.

The second time I saw him he read a ring I gave him that used to belong to my Great-grandmother (engagement), but I always wore it. He closed his eyes and said that a little girl would come into my life and be with me for a while - he kept repeating this. Then he said she would go away again, but I would have a son would bring the family closer together again.

When he said this, he looked at me in shock like he was panicking a bit. He looked really uncomfortable. Then he ended the meeting. Since then, I've been really worried that that little girl is my daughter and that something is going to happen to her. Everytime something almost happens - she gets close to what could be a potential accident, I start to panic.

Could he have been reading my great-grandmother's past, instead of my fortune? She had a son, but there might have been another child I didn't know about. I would advice people not to go to fortune tellers. The reading was now 7 years ago, and it still haunts me. I'd like to hear feedback from people who are open-minded on this issue, as I'm sure lots of people will also tell me it's all rubbish. Also, advice on how I can forget it. Thanks.

Honestly, OP. Your 'open mind' is making you just silly. The fact that other people have paid this charlatan money to make shite up, and bought his books, means nothing. Doris Stokes was incredibly well-known and wrote bestsellers, which didn't stop her also being a disgusting fraud who invited recently-bereaved people, or vulnerable people who had contacted her after appalling losses, into her stage shows and using the things she knew about them to impress the rest of the paying punters. These people are scum. They have no hotline to the spirits/fates/whatever you're having yourself.

First time I saw him he said things that no-one would have known. He also said I'd have a son who would be musical - I am very musical also.
Anyway, as it turns out, I did have a son, but I had a daughter first.

Look what you're doing. You say he knew things no one could have known (also known as cold reading) but then you're already ignoring his 'mistake' in getting the sex of your first child wrong. That's not 'something no one could have known', that's guesswork. 'Musical' could mean anything from enjoying Sing '' Sign classes to being a world class violinist.

Stop worrying. Mr Fraudulent Guesswork definitely didn't foresee the death of your daughter.

It's a load of bollocks Op.

Don't be so open minded that your brain falls out...

I'll do a reading for you.
The vibes that come down the computer line tell me that you're very gullible and wish to believe things.

You probably had something on/about you that meant musical wasn't an entire guess. (Good gracious Holmes how did you deduce that!) and then he made the wrong guess (which was 50/50) on you having a boy. The adding "little girl" was just to increase the likelihood of being right.

One told dm she would never go into hospital... funny because she was due a routine operation which required a week stay (back in 80s!) within the month.

Even if you believe it, you're focusing on the worst possible case. This could be you have your dd, she goes off to Uni at 18 and then you find out you're pregnant and have a boy.

I do actually believe in psychics - I believe that rarely, very very very rarely, they can exist and have actual 'powers'. But most of them are bollocks and just skilled in nlp. Look at Derren Brown if you have doubts - an nlp master who could easily masquerade as a psychic but is open about the fact that he's not.

Also meant to say that I doubt a 'true' psychic would actually tell you bad things.

Agree with pp nobody can predict the future. Look at how this has affected your life. I'm angry on your behalf.

And also looking at what he said: The girl would have had to "left your life" before your son came along.
And if he said "a little girl" and then "son" surely he'd have said "daughter" and "son" or "little girl" and "little boy".

OK, some pretty harsh comments. I think perhaps you could have told me it was rubbish without making it sound like an insult. I'll try to get Mumsnet to delete this post as I feel I've shared something which affects me and then have been ridiculed a bit. Thanks to those who have expressed their thoughts nicely. x

And what Arfarf said - a downfall of humans is that we all like to think we're special or unique in someway, when we're mostly not.

'You're a thinker', 'something is bothering you', 'you've had sadness in your past', 'you have great hopes for the next five years' - does this apply to you op? If so, I could do you a reading, I have plenty more Smile

Just to clarify, the info he told me that included things he wouldn't have known has not been mentioned in my original message. He told me lots of thngs. Anyway, seems I am a fool (with my brain falling out obvs) :-)

Like what though op?

That's what psychics depend on. The fact that they tell you that you're in finance, or that you have two dc, or that you lost your mum recently...they're things that you think that they couldn't possibly know...but things that can be read in people.

Recent bereavement, for example, shows on the face like a flag to someone skilled enough to read it...even when you're trying not to show it. Yet you'd still think there was no possible way they'd have known iyswim.

For all you know this man could have given the same prediction to several people which is why you were given the information twice. I have been to see a couple of fortune tellers - they were rubbish and got nothing right, however, two friends who went with me thought the readings were spot it - I think it depends on how much information you are giving without realising it.

op, jesus I'm sorry about some of the arsey replies you have had here, mn seems to be attracting some vile bitches these days

obviously you are worried enough about this all these years later which is why you posted here

all I can say is my experience...some people seem to have a way to connect with something that they get vibes from, but the vibes arent usually 100% correct, and thats whats happened here, part of what you were told has come true but the part you are worried about was untrue...it was explained to me like airwaves coming through a crackly line, some of it comes through correctly and some of it is heard wrong or comes though wrong, I think this is whats happened to you

I'd stop worrying about it.

You came on looking for reassurance that your daughter wasn't doomed to die because of an ambiguous comment from a 'fortune teller' that you've been worrying about for seven years, and have had responses pointing out that fortune tellers are frauds/deluded, skilled in cold reading, and don't have a magic hotline to the future. All perfectly good reasons to forget about what he said. Do you actually want people to say 'Oh, he was reading your great-grandmother's 'future' from her ring, not yours?' You obviously don't want to believe he foresaw your daughters's death, but you still seem to want to believe in the other stuff he 'couldn't have known'? Only of course there are ways he could have known! In the nicest possible way, OP, buck yourself up.

OP is obviously worried and I would be too...not that I'm giving credence to the charlatan who said those stupid things to her but of course she'd worry!

No need for all the mean and hard comments!

OP...any fortune teller with real gifts doesn't say stuff like that. He's full of crap. Are you worried or anxious generally? Sometimes, people focus on one thing and use it as a way of putting all their stress in one place. I think that's what you're doing here.

This man said a thing...he has no way of knowing the future...he doesn't.

Imagine his words on a piece of paper...in your mind, screw that paper up and then set fire to it....let the ashes fly up into space where they belong.

They're meaningless. Flowers

I know it is probaby all rubbish. The thing is, if someone says something that's not nice (i.e. the FT) then sometimes it can stick in your mind. this comment he said has stuck in my mind. Perhaps I have anxiety issues?

Obvs I welcome the good advice on here, but it could be given without horrible comments added to it. Also, what's the point of just commenting hahahah - what is funny about someone having worries, even if you think they are not warranted?
