To want to reiterate that 'yes' it's August and 'yes' Scottish schools are back

Honestly on every post on here which mentions a child being in school at the moment, someone, at least one poster states 'are you abroad or something' or 'why are your kids in school it's only august?'
Please please understand that most Scottish schools commence back after summer from around the 15th August, we are not abroad, we are in the Uk (at the moment anywayHmm) and I am fully aware of the English/Welsh holidays as its blasted a cross the BBC enough, just irritates me with some of the comments
(Will get off my Scottish high horse now)
Thanks xxx

Sometimes at this time of year I feel we should all preface our posts "I'm not a troll, just Scottish"'

I've seen so many clever twats "chinny reckon" at some poor OP who includes any detail about her kids being at school, I'm considering fucking off until September when the world can start turning again once English schools are back.
I'd also like to apologise for never understanding how annoying this kind if thing is until I moved to Scotland Grin

Yes, September weekend.
Maybe it's not the whole of scotland.

Try being in the US and explaining that our school is off from May 26- September 6th :o

Or that DD is doing a healthcare course at Uni and is still on placement, and no she hasn't been on holiday since May.

It's the same when we break up at the end of June. People are like "how are you on holiday so early?"

WappersReturns · 20/08/2016 06:57

Probably just me being crap again Brillo, been here 5 years and the school bus driver still has to remind me she's not coming on inset days and occasional days.
She's ace. 😂

September weekend is the last weekend in September here - Friday and Monday. And DC went back to school last week.

The only month Scottish schools get no hols is November!

Drives me nuts. Even shops actually in Scotland have return to school stuff like uniforms, school bags etc in stock at the wrong time. And Scottish editions of national papers advertise special school holiday deals at the wrong times.
We often do holidays in England at the start of the Scottish school holidays, before the English schools break up, so having the difference in dates is great for that.

No September weekend in Argyll, at least not in Northern Argyll.

No September weekend for us either. Only an 8 week term though then 2 week October holiday! (Only had children (P1) in for mornings this week and felt like the walking dead by Thursday morning....and Monday was an INSET day)!

Are you serious? That's three and a half months. What holidays do you get at other times of the year?

Do the teachers get all that holiday as well, or do they have to do preparations/training, etc for a proportion? As an ex-teacher, I'm green with envy (unless you've got to fill in the holidays with ghastly professional development stuff, in which case, no, I pity you, instead).

Yanbu op. Lack of basic intelligence or the ability to engage one's brain (and maybe Google if you're not sure) is evident all over this massively dumbed-down site now. Also, some posters appear not to have grasped that Mumsnet is used by people who live in forrin countries, people who are not female and people who are not parents!

Hate summer, DC still have seven weeks though, it starts end June. I really enjoyed the holidays this year, but I felt by the last week, they were ready to go back.

The holiday start two weeks earlier as well hatesummer
I'm quite amused about the ignorance of different holidays within Scotland in a thread about ignorance of the English of Scotland as a whole.

CitySnicker that'll be why. We get September weekend but only 1 week October holiday so the holidays probably even themselves out over the head

Report
CheerfulYank · 20/08/2016 09:05

Yes Tezza, teachers get the same break :) I do part time childminding and the kids I have now have parents who work at the school so I'm off too.

Cats Either a parent stays home or you pay for care. A lot of schools do a day camp type of program. It's not free but it's usually reasonable.

We don't get many long breaks throughout the year. Long weekends around Thanksgiving and Easter. Ten days or so for Christmas/New Year. Most months there's a Monday or Friday off somewhere for staff development or something. National holidays like President's Day, etc. Twice a year we get a day and a half off for parent teacher conferences.

Ours gets out a little earlier than lots, but almost every state school in the US has all or most of June, July, and August off.

I feel your pain OP. I have in the past been treated to an array of Hmm posts when I have mentioned my children being on school holidays at the start of July.

We get the September weekend, the October week and have an in-service day in November. The only month with no holiday here is March!

We go abroad at the start of the Scottish holidays (end June/start of july) and fly from Manchester as it is cheaper than flying from Scotland and the English holidays haven't started at that point

Our schools go back on the 23rd (clackmannanshire area)
