Bread bins

Recently moved to a lovely new home and decided that what would work really well on my bare expanse of kitchen worktop would be a bread bin. So I had a little look in a few shops and found all the nice ones have the word bread painted or embossed on the side. Why, just why I know it's going to have bread in, I don't need to have it spelled out for me! AIBU? Do most folk with bread bins forget where they've stashed their loaf and feel grateful for the reminder?

YANBU. Presumably these are the same people who get ever so confused when faced with a choice between 'SUGAR' and 'COFFEE'. It can be so hard to tell sometimes!

Gaah! I share your rage. I'm also looking for an attractive, non-bossy breadbin. It's surprisingly hard. We are NBU.

It's not just me who doesn't want containers with labels then! I'd much rather have something plain and choose what I want to put in it. Obviously you can use them for whatever you like, but it would niggle to get, say, flour out of a container labelled coffee.

We have an old one, from back in the day when people could be relied upon to remember where their own bread was kept.

I LOVE labelled things and always have the correct contents in them anal but my son loves to have a labelled container with different contents - what a rebel! I just find that annoying.

I find a bread bin with "bread" on it strangely comforting.

(I also like to have clocks in every room.)

DH has some bowls that say pasta on them. I eat soup out of them. They're not the boss of me.

I have mis matching containers largely from charity shops in the hope of achieving an I'm too cool to care air- but, actually I do care, I WANT matching shit- but I'm not allowed to have it. Not unless I'm happy to be hollered at by a container or happy to have a container my nan would have found twee ffs.

My bread bin had 'bread bread bread' on it when I bought it. (You would gave hated it, OP). Most of the letters rubbed off and now it says 'd bread'. I like it as a gangsta type phrase... 'd bread, in da house, innit' so it was never replaced 😅

So glad it's not just me! i considered turning the bin so the offending word faced the wall, but would that be me giving in to the power of the bin, which would smugly sit on my counter knowing that it had got one up on me? Or am I way too invested in this now

I have a fab bread bin that's plain from Next. It even has a drawer to store crumpets in!

I have a bread bin but a family who are incapable of opening it to see if there's any bread in there. So they go to the freezer and get out a new loaf, every time. While the loaf in the bread bin festers and/or gets fed to the chickens.

I'm late to bread bins - other than concealing the bread, what's their purpose? Genuine question, my mum always stored ours in the freezer.

Ooh that's a winner, our 'extras' outnumber the bread. OP I feel your pain, I spent 6 months looking for a breadbin I liked that didn't have bread written on it. Then started the container hunt. I've had three more kids since then and i am still not satisfied (but genuinely don't care any more really).

I know what you mean. Mine says bara which is Welsh for bread. I don't speak Welsh so it annoys me less than an English one would. My biscuits live in a bisgedi tin too.
MIL has a hideous glass chopping board. As if it being glass isn't crime enough it has 'chop' written on it over and over again. Using it makes me feel frantic as if someone is trying to hurry me along, chop chop.

Also why are lots of bread bins round? Apart from milk loaf which is hard to come by these days loaves are not round.

If you keep the breadbin in the cupboard, no one sees it so it doesn't matter if it's labeled or not.

Detest crockery and place mats etc with words on. "Dinner Breakfast Lunch" repeated around the edges. Why?! What if it's brunch or supper or just cake?! Feels like I'm being shouted at!
