AIBU?

To get the right arse with constant 'Bradley Wiggins greatest Olympian ever'

Whilst I think his latest win is fantastic and wonderful etc - I am being wound of the clock with BBC news telling me every hour ON the hour that Bradley Wiggins is now the greatest British Olympian of all time.

Part of me feels really petty for even getting in to this, as just getting to compete in an Olympic Games is a phenomenal achievement but if the BBC is going to make ridiculous statements like this, then they need to 1. Get their facts straight and 2. Just admit that they are still in the dark ages with the 'does he take sugar' mentality. ( Ahhh..aren't those disabled Olympians a-maz-ing .. Look what they can overcome..)

Facts :

Bradley Wiggins 5 golds
1 silver
2 Bronze

Across 5 Olympics.

*Greatest Ever Olympian
*
Tanni Grey-Thompson. 11 Golds
4 Silver
1 Bronze.

But then again are the BBC asking us to understand that 'Para' Olympians aren't 'proper' Olympians ? Really ? Surely an Olypic medal is an Olympic medal ? I wasn't aware para Olypic medals were second class !

I thought it may even have been standard BBC blindness of female achievement woman but that doesn't rub either as David Weir (6 gold 2 silver 2 Bronze) knocks Bradley Wiggins into a cocked hat medal-wise....

AIBU to consider the BBC to be exhibiting rank disablist clap trap that demeans the amazing achievements of our Olympians because they are 'disabled' - or do I just need to have a WineWine and calm down after 7 hrs in the car ...

Greatest EVER Olympian is Tanni Grey-Thompson.

Wiggins is annoying me, just watching the cycling and he's being interviewed now with team mates and he's the only one not wearing his medal. Pretending to have lost it, as if anyone wins Olympic gold then just throws the medal somewhere and forgets where it is. And he stuck his tongue out during the national anthem.

He's trying to cultivate some kind of wild child persona but just comes across as disrespectful and a twat, I really can't bear him.

Give me Froome any day!

YANBU. I'm sure USA would describe Michael Phelps as the greatest Olympian. It all goes on what you use to judge.

He's a sideburned bellend, responsible for some heinous sights as I've had to follow endless Mamils (middle aged men in Lycra) down A roads over the last four years.

I now associate him with overly visible ball sacks.

Not his number one fan Sad

Actual YABU re the para Olympian vs Olympian

They are linked but seperate events. Both equally as good but not the same.

Re Bradley, meh

Most decorated male Olympian is (I think) Lee Pearson (Paralympic dressage rider) - 10 Gold, 1 Silver and 1 Bronze. He never, ever gets mentioned.

CaveMum · 13/08/2016 20:38

Of course I meant most decorated British male Olympian.

Now probably isn't the time for me to admit I have a massive crush on him then?

He tries far too hard to be cool. Berk!

I don't think you can compare para-Olympians with Olympians. It is like comparing apples and oranges.

I am just immensely grateful that Steve Redgrave is being pushed more into the background as more people become multi-medal winners.

I think he's a tosser. He's the sort who would be really snide to people to impress his mates.

I struggle to take the Olympics seriously tbh but that said, I agree with pp that he's a twat.

We were ashamed and angry when Sir Bradley stuck his tongue out and pulled a face during the National Anthem. We felt if you accept the honour, you behave honourably. It spoilt it for the others. When has anyone ever seen a gold medal winner do this? It is very disrespectful of the country that has given him so much. The rubbish about his medal seems to indicate he is rather too big for his boots.

The BBC have lionised Katherine Grainger and ignored her rowing partner, and Tom Daley appears to be our only diver worth talking about. None of these two were successful on their own and neither achieved Gold in Rio.

The problem with 'greatest Olympian' tag is that swimmers and cyclists can do several events, and over many Olympiads. There are not many countries that take part in rowing or cycling - it has expensive equipment.

I don't really enjoy the para Olympics. There is a major problem because many countries cannot afford to support disabled people so they never get a chance. It is a very uneven playing field. The same people come back year after year so they get shed loads of medals like Tanni. I admire her but she had little competition from athletes around the world.

Another Team Froomie here. Bradley is a bit of a twonk. I actually have a bit of a crush on Froome. He's not very attractive and looks a bit geeky, but he has that air of being supremely comfortable in his own skin.

Anyone who wins a medal is great in my book. Bradley included.
It's down to him that all the cyclist's around here have £12k bikes. Which is excellent news for our friend who owns a bike shop Smile

Bradley Wiggins is behaving like a spoilt brat at the moment. The BBC had Chris Hoy and Steve Redgrave talking about what it takes to be a great sportsperson in the build up to last night's team pursuit. It was an interesting conversation with both men clearly reflecting closely on their experiences and trying to answer honestly, a lot of dignity and humour. Then the race (which was fantastic) promptly followed by BW behaving like an arse from the moment he got off the track, no celebration, face like a slapped arse, stomped off on his own. Then he hovered at the back of the team interview...until he got the chance to take over and say his bit without being interrupted by the rest of the team. Then the face pulling on the podium, completely taking all attention from his team mates. And finally the "oh I've lost my medal, aren't I a special snowflake" interview today.
Thank fuck he is retiring.

He was totally disrespectful during the national anthem. Has no respect and calls himself a "sir". And the lost medal is utter nonsense.

Report
TheLegendOfBeans · 13/08/2016 21:15

I was hoping he'd cry during the anthem.

Instead he pulled a stoopid face to "crack up" his team and be the big man

My respect for him just fell away then and there. You can be an excellent Olympian and still a fecking ass.
