To never go to this hairdresser again and wonder what clothes size has to do with being a HAIR MODEL?

My local hairdressers/beauty rooms has been open for 3 years and I have been a loyal customer (going twice, sometimes 3 times a week)

They put a flyer in their reception asking for a hair model for a open evening they are having in a few weeks. Only- on the application, it says "models up to a size 10 only".

AIBU to think what the actual fuck?

YABU it could be for a multitude of reasons. I've been a hair model and had to wear a toga- the hairdresser just needed models that would fit the clothes she had for the shoot.

Most models are size 10 or smaller. Depending on what they are trying to achieve will depend in who they are looking for.

Would you feel the same if it said 'only size 14 and above please?'

I'm 50 and used to model for my hairdresser in my teens (got a trim, blow, gossip and glass of wine ). Usually these things are run in conjunction with a department store or boutique. Or at least sponsored by them. Models will sometimes also wear the clothes from there. The clothes will be there waiting. They'll only take so many sizes.

My dream is to never wash and dry my hair again, but to go to the hairdresser several times a week for it!
Sadly to have the time I'd have to cut my work hours, and to have the money I'd have to increase my hours. Catch 22!

Anyway... I'd check whether it was clothes related before I got the hump and went elsewhere. But even without clothes (not without without 😂) could be the overall look they're going for. And many many women buy into that.

I'd ask them why you have to be under a size 10. If they haven't got a valid reason I'd find another hairdresser.

You'd think their criteria would be about hair quality or length rather than body size

If you're in there that many times per week, I'd suggest just casually asking what the reason is next time you're in. I'm sure they'd say.

Does it actually say size 10? Could it be up to 10 models needed?

Alternatively, do they have clothes to be.modelled and only have small sizes? If this I'd say that's pretty daft as most people would like to see a range of sizes. I'm clutching at straws!

In the past, when I had a lot more money, I used to get my hair treated and blown dry, twice a week. If I then wanted a Updo etc in the same week, I'd be there three times a week. I was socialising a lot (I really enjoyed my 30's and I'm glad I made the most of that age).

There's a lot of small business Beauty Industry awards, coming up, and I'm wondering if they're going to enter and/or they've got a deal with a photographer, who wants to use the photos, later on.

Everything is about looks these days, I applied to some jobs for admin that were asking for photos, like does it matter what I fucking look like to photocopy paper.

My DD went to a salon recently to help do the hair for a open evening. She was there to do hair but also the make up for the professional shots. They had hired a clothes stylist as well who bought samples in sizes 6 to 10 for the models to wear. They asked for models who were young and (v) slim.

It was a whole cat walk look thing. That's probably why they specified certain age/size criteria at yours OP.

Sadly the whole fashion industry stubbornly revolves around 'up to size 10s only'.
