separate sizes for children
separate sizes for women
separate sizes for men

I have started to only look for european sizes as I can never be sure.

aibu to find it confusing?

Sizing for men and women is the same surely? I've worn women's shoes lots of times and buy a size 8 no matter if it's trainers or heels

pippistrelle Thu 21-Apr-16 13:04:03

A little bit U as an entire nation mostly manages to wear shoes that fit in spite of it, so it doesn't seem like it's that confusing.

rainbowunicorn Thu 21-Apr-16 13:05:53

It really isn't. Little kids sizes go up to 13 then start back at 1 as they get older and this will take you through to adulthood generally going up one number at a time till the feet stop growing.

DesertOrDessert Thu 21-Apr-16 13:06:58

Surely the kids sizes are just smaller than the adults, as a kids foot grows, they keep going up sizes, there is no distinct break when getting to an adult size?

Not aware men's and women's are different either, expect for width.

There are different sizes of shows for men and women?

I never knew that.

Since most people can find shoes that fit quite easily I would say Yabu.

PeaceLoveAndJaffaCakes Thu 21-Apr-16 13:08:58

The only overlap is between children's sizes and adult sizes, but it's fairly obvious when you look at them that a child size 5 and an adult size 5 are not the same, and only one would fit.

ChemistryHunt Thu 21-Apr-16 13:10:08

I have to say YABU. I think generally shoe sizes are the same although I think men's shoes in a soze 6+ do seem to be a bit wider.

Most of my shoes are from boys junior ranges and for the same as my women's shoes (size 5).

peacelove I wear an adult size 5 and a child size 5 and I've never noticed a difference blush

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia Thu 21-Apr-16 13:16:33

i think the bother comes in with the translation between UK and European sizes

I am usually a UK7 but some places equate that with 40, some with 39

but it's getting the same as clothes in that they all vary...i have size 5-8 in the cupboard and they all fit.....it's a nonsense.

MsRinky Thu 21-Apr-16 13:21:28

There aren't separate sizes for men and women, unlike American sizes, where according to my Vans box, a UK 6 is an American 8.5 for women and a 7 for men.

Ameliablue Thu 21-Apr-16 13:23:37

Readytorage do you mean a childs size 5 which would fit a toddler or a shoe from a children’s section which is adult size 5?

HermioneJeanGranger Thu 21-Apr-16 13:24:51

Huh?

Children's sizes go from 1-13, then you start at an adult size 1, going upto 12/13. It's the same for men and women.

PeaceLoveAndJaffaCakes Thu 21-Apr-16 13:25:45

Yy Amelia my toddler is a size 5.5 and his shoes would fit over my toes, if I wore them horizontally. I'm an adult size 6.

GreenMarkerPen Thu 21-Apr-16 13:25:51

I just bought shoes for dc which have stamped on them
4uk men/5uk woman.

PeaceLoveAndJaffaCakes Thu 21-Apr-16 13:26:52

What brand shoes? Can we see the box?

GunShotResidue Thu 21-Apr-16 13:31:34

A child size 6 next to an adult 5. You mist have very strange shaped feet ready wink

MausAndCamels Thu 21-Apr-16 13:43:59

It's even worse here (Middle East). None of the shops know about UK sizes and they don't seem to "measure" feet like they do in the UK so I have to google the corresponding European size before even attempting to buy any; and then try on several sizes until one fits! And getting the kids' shoes is even worse as often whatever size the last pair were has rubbed/worn off so we spend ten minutes or so trying to remember what size they were bought last.

araiba Thu 21-Apr-16 13:46:29

yabu to be confused

it's pretty simple

curren Thu 21-Apr-16 14:13:29

GreenMarkerPen Thu 21-Apr-16 14:53:10

well many children grow out of child size shoes at some time. you might wear an adult size 5 from the children's styles.

YANBU. I'm a European 43. In some stores that's a uk 9, in some a uk 9 is a European 42 (it never used to be!)

Even putting aside width, a man's 9 and a women's 9 are also not always the same - eg the Asos size guide says the mans 9 is a 43 but a woman's 9 is a 42. It also quotes different lengths in mm for a man's 9 and a woman's 9

NotCitrus Thu 21-Apr-16 17:13:50

American shoes have different sizes for men and women - the men's sizes are the same as the UK, you have to add 2 to get American women's sizes (and subtract 2 for US clothes sizes...)
