AIBU?

To think if you don't use your f*cking indicators, you shouldn't be allowed on the road??

It's getting unbearable where I live in London.
Today, trying to cross a crossroads with a buggy and I swear 1/4 of the drivers pulling out of the road opposite me didn't bother indicating before turning left. They are clearly expecting other people to psychically know whether they are turning or going straight on.
DP, who is a very careful cyclist, nearly got knocked off his bike today by an uber driver pulling out without indicating, and then swearing at him (DP).

THE HIGHWAY CODE STATES THAT YOU HAVE TO INDICATE BEFORE UNDERTAKING A MANOEUVRE! Do people not understand this anymore??? Clearly they don't in SE London.

If drives me mad when people don't indicate.

In fact I have been known to lean over and indicate for dh when he's driving, when it's clear he's not going to.Blush

Lots of drivers seem to believe that if there is not another driver in their sight it's fine to not indicate, like pedestrians and cyclists don't need to be know what their next move will be! So irritating and potentially dangerous

YANBU. If someone doesn't indicate at a roundabout, I don't give them way. They missed their chance. And if they get annoyed, that's a bonus.

Yanbu.

See also people who brake before indicating and those who indicate right then left in rapid succession when going straight on at a roundabout.

leelu but you're not supposed to indicate when going straight on?

This pisses me right off and I don't drive. I can't count the amount of times I've been trying to cross at a junction, see a car that I think is going straight only to have it swerve towards me - one woman even had the cheek to give me the finger when I shouted put your indicator on. It's dangerous, inconsiderate and illegal... my uncle got fined back in the 90s for this and rightly so.

I agree. I cannot understand people who think indicators are optional. Surely indicating becomes second nature? How can you just forget to do it?

YANBU!!!

I have been known to holler choice phrases such as "Oi mate, your indicators need servicing they don't work!" Or "Think you've lost your L plates!" Or some such at drivers who don't indicate.
Had one funny incident where I was walking to a petrol station shop and a driver didn't indicate to pull in at the pump (he was 'queueing for the pump next to it) so I casually walked over and said to him [all serious and genuinely concerned act:] "Excuse me, sorry to bother you, but just to let you know that you might want your car looked at while you're here as your indicators don't seem to be working! Just thought I'd let you know in case you were not aware." And then just strolled off! The look on his face was priceless!

I walk a lot and it annoys me so much when I think a driver is going straight on so I cross but then they fucking hate me because I've dared to cross over when they didn't indicate to say they wanted to drive there. I end up waving my arms like a loon

Being around non-indicating drivers is at the top of the list of reasons DD is subjected to my poor language. I'm really good at curbing it at all other times but drivers who seem to think the rest of us are telepathic really boil my piss.Angry

If people are going straight, I give them away. Although, I was told on another thread that motorists should indicate left just before they go straight on a roundabout.

You're supposed to indicate even if the road is apparently empty as there may be someone you haven't seen.

I don't even have hormones to blame, I do it 24/7 Grin
Like today, car doesn't indicate, presume they're going straight on so I wait. No. They're going left at the roundabout so I sit there and wait. Next car does the same Angry

YANBU. Even the police don't bother to indicate around here. It really winds me up, and I have pondered how much it has added to global warming. I live in one of the new towns, which seems to be the home of the roundabout too.

There should be a thing like your car can't slowly torn if you don't indicate. So you could swerve in an emergency but nothing happens on the day to day driving.

Drives me mad. I didn't drive for 6 years and in that time everyone decided to stop using their indicators. So irritating.

The Highway Code says you should indicate left before any exit on the roundabout www.gov.uk/guidance/the-highway-code/using-the-road-159-to-203

I'm not in the UK.
Indicators here mean " I've seen a space I'm going to move to" so every other bgger on the road says "oh, a space, let's bunch up, as there is space I could use rather than bloke using those funny orange things"
They are defunct here. It's one of the things that makes driving here so scary.
Be grateful 60% of the population DO use indicators.

I hear you sister. It's embarrassing to sit at a roundabout and be afraid to move because you know that 3/4 cars won't indicate or indicate all wrong. Or, as the idiot did on Saturday, choose to turn left from the wrong lane, no indicator and almost smashing into me.

But the twinkly lights are ssoooo pretty they should only be used on special occasions.

YANBU. It's one of the first things you learn when learning to drive. Mirror, Signal, Manoeuvre. It's not hard, people are just fuckwits in general.

In my case at least my DD will always remember to indicate because she was exposed to an extremely colourful language from her Mum, concluded with: Don't you ever dare to use these words, they are very bad Blush
