To think these workmen need to just get the job done and stop disrupting my life?!

I posted last week about how much of a piss take having my kitchen replaced (in MOD housing) was becoming.
It's now been a week since it was started, and I've got a new ceiling and plaster on the walls and the workrooms have been cut to size and left in my garage....that's it. They seem to work at a snails pace. And in doing so, are completely ruining my DD's routine!! They aren't out of my house until gone 5:30pm everyday so I can't get to the cooker or use the only filthy surface I've been left with, when dd usually eats at 5pm. So I end up feeding her carrot crisps and rice crackers until I can cook for her, by which point she's having tantrums because she's hungry. She's also by sleeping at all when they are here because of the noise. Her room is right above the kitchen. I tried moving her cot into my room, but she wasn't having any of it. And on days like today, when no workmen have even showed up even though they were supposed to be here at 8am, she's had crappy naps i.e. 20-30 mins, which I'm putting down to her being out of normal routine for over a week!
It does not take this long to re-plaster the walls and put new cupboards in. I'm pretty sure I could refit a kitchen with a fucking roll of sellotape and a ruler quicker than these cowboys!!

Actually they are on a pretty standard timeline. Ours took 4 weeks start to finish. Temember they can't put the cupboards up until the plaster has dried all the way through which can take up to 3 days. If you ask them to though they will leave at 5 so you can feed your daughter. Personally I think you are being a little precious but I get that it is stressful. We had the bathroom and boiler replaced at the same time as the kitchen so you can imagine what our house looked like.

I had one replaced once in Germany in the 90's. It was over three weeks before the floor was done. One if the 'workmen' random tramps they'd brought in to fuck up constantly sat to eat his lunch one day in my hallway - fine, no prob with that. Then started to light a cigarette! When I told him in no uncertain terms that wasn't happening in my home he started to argue. And try to carry on! I threw him out, (luckily he was by the door, I had the element of surprise, and am trained to move peoe quickly) locked the door and refused to let him in until his boss came. I did get an apology and I saw him getting a bollocking, but how fucking disgusting was the scratty bastard! Luckily he tried it with the wrong person.

I'm well aware that in being precious about it but I can't take it anymore! the fact that the date to do the kitchen was given to the previous occupant, I've only lived here 2 weeks so I still have moving boxes left unpacked, and the kitchen was meant to be done before anyone even moved in has made way more stressful!!
No workmen have turned up today, despite the fact I was told to expect them at 8:30am, and I've seen their vans in the driveways of empty houses I can't see why they are fannying about doing kitchens on empty houses when mine is still a building site
Tigger wtf?! Cheeky bastard! Mine aren't people who work for the MOD housing people either, they are outside contractors. Who all speak to my husband about the work when he's here, and then when I ask questions just fob me off

Yes, it's a piss-take to tell you to expect them and not turn up, but if the plaster is fresh I don't know what they can do until it's dried?

And yes to previous posters, 3-4 weeks is about right for getting a kitchen fitted.

The plastering was done last Wednesday..so it should definitely be dry 6 days later surely?
And this isn't the first time no one has shown up - happened twice last week as well.
Just turns your whole house upside down doesn't it?! Which was not what I expected when I moved in, and then 3 days later someone knocks on the door and says "we will be ripping your kitchen out on Monday"

Could you set up a mini kitchen in your living room, this is what I did. Could you buy a mini tabletop oven/hob, then sell it when you've finished with it. Try and keep calm and get organised the night before for the day ahead.

My DP fits kitchens, that's all pretty standard stuff when having a new one fitted.

Vulcan I've got the kettle, bottle steriliser, Tommee Tippee machine and microwave in the front room, along with a tray of cutlery and some crockery. I've been washing up in the bathroom, and taking the dirty laundry to the laundrette on camp every few days - but from what the resident's liaison lady has told me, they should be out of the house by 5pm so I can use the cooker, should have left a clean, working sink in, and should plumb my washing machine back in before they leave none of which has been done any of the times they've been here. She has told me that she has had numerous complaints in the last few days from people on the next street over about the same things ie. Workmen not turning up when people have taken days off work because they are expecting them.
Seems like this whole project is one massive cluster fuck!

Are you paying privately or is it through the HA/council? Not that the latter excuses it at all, it just makes me wonder whether they're taking the piss because you're not paying directly, and therefore have less control?

But Pat I'm assuming your husband is hired by the people who live in the house because they are paying for a service they have asked for and they actually want and need a new kitchen....i just had someone from MoD housing knock on my door and say "you're having your kitchen replaced". We have no choice in the matter.

Look on the bright side, at least if everything is still in boxes it isn't getting coated with building dust. Just try and adopt a fuckitall attitude about it all. That is what we did. Just sat back, ordered takeaway, put the telly on with subtitles so we could follow it while they were drilling and ignored it all.
