To ask if this is an actual name?

Someone I know is calling their new born Treylon..is that a name? I've never heard it before.

Fwiw the grandmother's on both sides are telling everyone that asks that the name hasn't been chosen yet while trying to get the parents to pick something else.

Yeah dp keeps referring to him as Draylon or Teflon.

It just seems like an American rapper type name rather a south of England type name.

Google suggests that it has been used as a name more than once before. Some parents take this to mean 'it is a name'. I personally prefer names that are in fairly regular usage. But that doesn't make me right. Arguably using something as a name makes it a name.

It sounds like an artificial material used to make trays or a cleaning products.

It's an awful name but it appears to be a name. Although, anything could be a name. I found a name trend website a couple of years ago. It was genuinely fascinating typing in modern names (Kayden, Jayden, Kai, Nevaeh etc) and seeing the massive surge in popularity. Same with seeing the slump in classic names. The celebrity trends were clear to see as well (Britney, Justin, Selena, Taylor etc).

I've heard Trey used as a name many times. Never Treylon though, I agree is does have a bit of a 'gangster rapper' vibe to it.

Almost anything can be a name though and it really is just the choice of the child's parents.

Oh I agree you can name your child whatever you like but everyone's a bit stunned. When the dad said the name on fb not one person said "lovely name". It was like an elephant in the room, no one mentioned it, just sort of pretended he hadn't written it.

I am guilty of using a name that no-one had ever heard before, i had only ever seen it written and made an educated guess at the pronunciation. I did a bit of research and found it was a really, really old name with a story attached so that was enough for me. people tried to talk me out of it, but i'm stubborn and went ahead. I have to say DS gets so many compliments on his name and he loves telling the history of the name. There is now at least one (that i know of) other child named his name and it was because the mother heard his name and loved it.

My DC have very unusual names though so I can't complain. If a friend did use Treylon I would be complimentary. He'll get called Trey anyway so not that bad.
