Just wondering why people refer to a GHD hair straightener as "GHDs" rather than "GHD". Or "hair straighteners" rather than the singular form.

Isn't it just one appliance?

I had a friend years ago who would talk about a 'pair of bras' meaning one bra.

She insisted she was right because it has two cups.

Or a pair of trousers. Yes there's two legs but it's one garment...

I thought it was because it stood for Good Hair Days (plural)......for the price, I'd want more than a single day of good hair Smile

Slightly off topic but I have been meaning to ask on MN - does anyone know if their curling tongs/wand (whatever it's called!) are any good?

WhoTheFuckIsSimon · 22/10/2015 19:50

Well there are two straighteners (straightening plates) in the one device.

The plural of Guinness is St Patrick's Day special.

The plural of Sudoku is Sudokota, it being a highly irregular Greek noun.

Prius ---> Prii, pronounced Pree-ee, I reckon.

Going to the doctors is probably short for going to the doctors' surgery.

Guinesses, like Princesses.

I'm feeling all voice of authority-like. For no good reason. Any others?

Except I missed an n in Guinnesses, which undermines my authority somewhat.
