AIBU?

To wish people would have a bit of patience in check out queues

Don't get me wrong. I have no patience myself with people who wait until all their groceries are scanned before packing them, or who spend ages rooting for their purse, or who stand gossiping with the assistant when there's a queue behind them.

But some people are ridiculous; huffing and puffing because someone isn't packing as quickly as they'd like, or coming up behind them at the self check out and putting down their basket before the person ahead of them is finished packing and collecting their change, or starting to unload their stuff onto the belt before the person ahead of them is finished.

At the supermarket this morning the woman ahead of me was having a blue fit because two of the self checkouts weren't working and the person at the third one had to wait for the assistant to come over and help her with something. She was giving out and tutting and really embarrassing the other shopper.

AIBU to think these are some rude impatient knobs who think they mustn't be held up for a nano second in their busy important lives should just stay at home and shop on line with no human beings to annoy them?

I switch off to people like this and let their outrage at being made to wait wash over me. I do the same with other drivers who think they should judge when I should be pulling out of junctions or on to roundabouts despite oncoming vehicles. Same with those that drive up my arse when I'm doing the speed limit - of they don't like it they can go round, it's no skin off my nose.

I do everything extra slowly if the person behind me is impatient and rude Smile.

I can only do super fast Aldi checkouts now (I have passed the official "packing in two big ikea bags" proficiency exam Wink). All other supermarket checkouts give me the rage.

It's frustrating if two self service checkouts aren't working. If that's the case staff should be extra vigilant about assisting with problems arising at the remaining checkouts.
Rude behaviour like putting your shopping down before the person in front of you has finished isn't justified but do you seriously expect people who have a 30 minute lunch break to remain placid when there are hold ups due to inefficiency?

You just need to assume they are having a rubbish day and are running late.

I had a visit to the local supermarket, which is always an event
I think maybe I was more irritable because some cunt drove into the parent and baby space that I had been waiting for, and the biatch gets out with a walking 4-5 yo, so I had to go upstairs to park
While waiting at the checkout, the woman behind starts loading the belt, but gets really close to me to do it, I don't react, she actually said sorry the first time she done it, but kept doing it.....I have no room to move forward as I have a pram with me, which fair enough she might not have seen,
THEN when I start to load the items in the bags, she literally shove the trolley up my arse, I said I'm gonna need to use the chip and pin when I come to paying, biatch then death stares me, and reluctantly moves back, while saying a few words I couldn't hear!!!Shock What is wrong with some peopleBlush

I too have been spoiled by Aldi. They're so so quick. They can scan a whole trolly of shopping in under 2 minutes.

If someone starts loading the conveyor belt behind me before I've finished emptying my trolley I give them my best "what a fuckwit" look and say "you've got to be kidding". They usually look sheepish and rein themselves in.

No one is going to stay patient if they are pushed for time and are being held up by faffing about at the checkout. I have to bite my tongue if I go in any supermarket other than Aldi now. The customers and checkout staff alike are fucking slooooow! Not the place to go if you've other places to be in the same day.

I've never encountered anything like this. Maybe I am just really fast?

I was in Tesco in Rathfarnham Dublin earlier today. A woman stood on top of me at the self service checkout, said loudly to the assistant "are only two of the tills working?" and plonked her basket down on the ledge before I had finished packing and collecting my change.
As I walked off I saw her disdainfully pulling my receipt out of the slot and tossing it to one side.
Rude cow!

Oh and YANBU. People who take the attitude that 'I'm busy, everyone get out of my way' are rude and ignorant. If you've no time to spare shop on line. Don't go into the supermarket and then behave as if everyone must rush to convenience you.

I told a huffing man to stop it in the shoe shop Grin

Day before schools went back. Stupid time to buy school shoes but the rest of us knew that and accepted the wait as our penance. Not him. He arrived about 15 minutes after us and 5 minutes later was a huffing and a puffing and making sarcastic comments aimed at the three assistants who were doing their best. All he was doing was irritating everyone else and giving himself sky high blood pressure. So I told him to stop complaining, we were all waiting and he was making the wait even less pleasant. Then turned my back and pretended he wasn't glaring at me. But at least he was quiet.

notplayers she sounds pushy but

Shopping online isn't possible for everyone. Not everyone has a credit card and people sometimes need emergency shopping.
She was within her rights to enquire why the full facilities weren't available.
You were rude not to take your receipt and leave the till ready for use by the next person.

The one who boils my piss is the one who remembers something half way through and goes back for it. Pay for what you've got then go back. Waste your time, not other people's.

You dont need a credit card to do online supermarket shopping. A normal debit card would do.

When i am out & about i usually have my headphones in so i dont hear the huffing & puffing. Its bliss.

or starting to unload their stuff onto the belt before the person ahead of them is finished

What, are you supposed to wait until the belt is empty before starting to unload your stuff? That's bonkers, I've never seen that.

I think there's a kind of baseline assumption that someone will move rather swiftly when there is a queue. Surely that's just courtesy?

But really, getting irritated at every queue that you stand in is a straight ticket to an early grave. I don't know how the huffers and puffers get through their days.

Jassy I thought that, but actually I think it's unpacking when the person in front is still unloading their trolley. I will guesstimate how much space I need and put the divider down.

Reboot quite a lot of supermarkets won't accept Electron online. If you have a basic bank account that will be the card you have.

You could point out the self service checkouts.

notplayers was complaining about the woman at the self service checkouts.

It's the self checkout tills that get me huffing and puffing. Always alleging that I haven't put an item in the bagging area. Arghhh! Especially when in a hurry.

I Sooty

The reason I didn't take my receipt was because she was practically on top of me and had already plonked her groceries on the till before I was finished. How does that make me rude? I got out of her way as quickly as possible because of her pushy behaviour.
