my son 23yrs pointed out the window to a bird and asked 'is that a threstral'?

A thestral is a creature from harry potter I wondered what else my son thought might be real ?
He is, after all the first generation who was exposed to harry potter.

what other side effects have others seen in their children who are under the influence of harry potter?

My darling autistic son,on his 11th birthday (Potter party aswell!) was patiently waiting for Hagrid to knock my front door down to take him to Hogwarts Grin

I know of another autistic child who ended up choosing to go to a special residential school because he decided it would be like Hogwarts Grin

my 10 year old is still waiting for a letter from Hogwarts which makes discussing which secondary school he'd like to go to pretty hard

My son is 26 and still lives in hope of his invitation letter to Hogwarts.

Ha, we have a sign up in the utility room reminding the DSs that we don't have a house elf and they still think we do!

No house elves here either-but I've been scarier than Voldemort at times when my kids think they exist!

Silver and Small If you go on eBay and order a HP quill pen you get sent a free ticket for the Hogwarts Express with it. That order was a BIG mistake Grin

Haha I love this. I am a year younger than your son and love Harry Potter. Have done since it first came out. Won tickets to see the first one by dressing as a character. Proud moment for my 9 year old self. However no lasting effects I think, although I am desperate to visit the Harry potter store at King's Cross station this week

I regularly find myself muttering 'accio remote' or 'accio tea' when I'm sitting comfortably and don't want to move to get something out of my reach.

ten years ago I had a brain haemorrhage.. I'd been reading the Potter books just prior and my misfiring brain kept saying spells from them - for example, when a nurse dropped a tray my brain said "scourgify!" which I knew was wrong for this reality but couldn't say anything else properly for ages!

The thriving UK and US university Muggle Quidditch scene is evidence that a lot of teens who've been reading Potter all their life leave the hell that is secondary school PE and decide "Yes, I want to do some sports at uni, but no I'm not going to settle for sodding football/netball. I've wanted to play Quidditch all my life and Quidditch I will bloody well play!"

I'd love one of those clocks that Molly Weasely has to know where they all are.

We have a wand instead of a TV remote. I don't know how DS1 managed that, but since his letter still hasn't come either (24 going on 11....) I am quite sure he's not a wizard.

I would love a pet owl, a tidying up spell would be awesome too and I'd like to give polyjuice potion to someone else so they could impersonate me at work!

Snapechat the first book came out in 1997 and I was genuinely reading it when it first came out. I was a very advanced reader. Many of my friends also had the books read to them by parents or on audio tapes

I would have thought a 6 year old could easily read Harry potter, at least the first couple of books
I was ten when it came out so grew up with Harry.
